People buying performance cars compare performance and price. The GT500 and C6 is a valid comparision.
Yea, because they offer the similar performance
The people that say they aren't competitive vehicles are doing so because the Vette kicks the GT500's butt in every performance category. It reminds me of a little kid making excuses.
Ford should take some notes from GM in building a performance car.

And that Ford GT sucked a**, and the 2003-2004 Cobras were performance jokes. . . .
(And I think its perfectly fine to compare a GT500 to a C6. Nothing wrong with that comparison at all.)
I hope they don't get hold of the notes GM had for the Camaro . . . . prior to its resurrection or the recent GTO.

The C5 and 03-04 Cobra were dead even in acceleration, but that's about it. When there was a turn, bye bye Cobra.
Ford just needs a engine that can match the LS series.
I just read the 08 Challenger w/a 6.1 v8 will weigh in at 4140 lbs. It's almost the same weight as the Charger SRT8 which weighs 4160 lbs. Weight distribution is a nearly identical @ 55.6/44.4.
I'm guessing the upcoming camaro will also be heavy. I've seen it at previous autoshows and it does look pretty big. Nice, but big......

(And I also mean the GT500 if it does indeed come with a F/I 5.0)
Ok now I'm getting scared.... I'm not only liking the exterior design cues but now the mere thought of a 350 hp 5.0L stang is killing me.... if this gen really does beat out the previous I am actually going to be majorly upset! My bank account is going to hate me
Well if the Mustang GT has a 400hp 5.0L
either the 3.5 is standard and the EcoBoost 3.5 is a base, option or SE
I doubt it would be the base. It's probably not a cheap engine, your right.
Option... I could see that. However... being that it WILL a LOT more cars than just the mustang, they could spread the cost across more vehicles.
250HP 3.5 base with 315hp EcoBoost option
400hp GT
550HP GT500
Don't know it could play out a bunch of ways.

I hate to be the pessimist, but I don't think it's a given that the GT will get a 400 HP NA 5.0. I just don't see a high volume model getting 400HP in light of increasing MPG requirements and the growing anti-car setiment that is now targeting high HP vehicles.
There is too much overlap between the D35 TT and the new 5.0 as the D35T will have more than 315 HP and a better torque curve than the 5.0. And given the Mustang's sales volume, the bean counters may not go for 4 engines.
I say the D35 will be the base engine @ 265 HP. Given the sagging US dollar, it's probably cheaper (in US dollars) than the German made 4.0. The 4.0 has horrible HP compared to the competition, plus Ford needs any MPG gains it can find.

Fine too, less demand equals better deals forthe rest of us that want a 400 horse GT.

I have to see it first to believe it. Remember, this is ultra conservative Ford Mo. Co.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit if these new engines were delayed to 2012MY.
I think Ford will place the 315h.p. 4.6L Bullitt engine in the 2010MY Mustang GT.
If we are lucky, Ford will bring out a Mach1 with a 350-400h.p. 4.6L or 5.4L.
Those are my pessimistic 2010MY thoughts anyway.
I don't think Ford is that worried about the performance of the Camaro & Challenger. I think Ford is more worried about cosmetics at this point, to keep the Stang looking "fresh".
I beleive Ford's mindset is: We have a 315h.p. Bullitt. We have a 500h.p. Shelby GT500. Then there is the 319h.p. Shelby GT.
540h.p. GT500KR and 600h.p.+ Super Snake.
Then you have Saleen, Rouch etc.
