Meh.... 4v adds some heft, I'd prefer evolving the 3v technology myself, but I guess in a few years after I pay off the 07, I wouldn't mind a nice 4v powerplant to play with.

If it becomes a reality the smell of a BOSS 302 SE will soon follow.

I don't know... IIRC, MB used to have 3v heads in their cars and Ferrari went as far as 5v and they both reverted to 4v/cyl. heads.
What ever the case may be, I just want to see something new & improved to take on the competition!

Well this just made my day!! I was really hoping I could keep my 06 forever and be happy, now it seems that may not be true anymore. Although I would still have one advantage over a TT 3.5 V6...the sound of 2 more cylinders!!

Do you guys think the new 5.0 and Turbo V6 will get better MPG numbers than the current models? I only ask because it is rare for a car to gain a large amount of power (+100 HP?) and still keep fairly decent MPG numbers. Cars with a lot of power tend to burn a lot more gas no matter how big the engine. My example is the Subaru STI it is a turbo 4 with 300HP and it gets the same gas mileage as a 4.6 V8 Mustang......

I bet that 4 has to work really hard to get that 300hp though....

With my focus...I get worse highway milage (70+mph) than in my Taurus (3.0)...being that the 4 cyl. has to work so hard to get up that fast and work against the wind resistance, while that 6 cyl. does not need to work nearly as hard to do it...get me?

I hear ya. People can talk about turbos and forced induction until the cows come home, but as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing like a naturally aspirated V-8...

...and no, I'm not an old-timer.

4 Valves per cylinder. Older 4.6L Mustang engines had 2, the 2005+ Mustangs have 3, and now this talk of 4 valves per cylinder.

The advantages are that the engine can breathe better with more valves. Having 2 intake valves open helps more air/fuel mix get into the cylinder, therefore making more HP. 2 exhaust valves help the exhaust gasses get out of the cylinder easier and with less hp loss.

That would be me. I'm hoping for a base sticker under $30K, though.

And you should prefer 3V since you have one. I have a 4V and hopefully this new 5.0 4V technology can be used in some upgrade applications for my Mach.

I am going to be a pessimist here. Ford has been behind the curve with the 05+ engines from the get go. I see no reason why they would change their tune now.

I mean a stock GT500 still has issues with a new stock C6, I mean come on. Thats your flagship stang??

Trust me, I love, my 07', but if they came out with a twin turbo V6 or a twin turbo V8 I would sell it immediatley!!

Or at least give us an H.O. type engine option, I have said it before. You got people willing to drop $1800 on a Navigation option, so at minimum give us a fully forged bottom end option as well for that money. They have already worked with Manley. I know alot of people would pay for that.

I know I am just dreaming out loud. By the way back to the V6 thing real quick. I never thought i would hear my self say this about a V6, But I rented a Chrysler crossfire with the N/A V6 sourced from Mercedes and I was **** impressed!!!! I took out a Hemi charger like it was nothing, and that was an automatic downshifted from 80 MPH. That really opened my eyes to the potential of a well put together V6.

I guess all we can really do is keep our fingers crossed, mine are.

Is this because you feel a car must compete directly with a car that is not even in the same class?

THe 300hp 3v 4.6 is a nice engine (and still on Wards Best 10 List)
especially considering its the only 300hp v8 car you could get into for 25,000

The GT500 should be competing with the Challenger and Camaro, not the Vette or Viper. The only reason people do is there was no direct camparison car, and that it has a large ammount of horsepower.
