Clear Bra/Mask Cleaning Advice
Clear Bra/Mask Cleaning Advice
I realize some have discussed Clear Bra/Mask previously (me included), yet I haven't seen my recent problem brought up.
Immediately after purchase, I had a Clear Bra installed on the front end (and other sensitive places). Although I've been happy with it, I just discovered the importance of timely cleaning. About three weeks ago, I drove through the Central Valley of California which (during the summer) contains more flying insects than one would care to imagine. Of course, the front end of my car looked less than pretty thereafter.
Well, due to a busy schedule, I failed to wash my car until a couple days ago. That was a mistake. The bugs had baked on to the urethane, making it very difficult to remove. Car wash and XPEL cleaner failed. Ultimately, I had to use Bug & Tar remover, followed by another round of XPEL cleaner. And large quantities of elbow grease. While this has happened to me with the auto paint/clear coat in the past - never has it been this hard to remove. And this occurred with a coat of XPEL sealant previously applied.
I've learned my lesson. Wash bugs immediately after trip (at least rinse, followed by a bath the next day). And I think I’ll apply two coats of the sealant this time.
Anyone else have this (unpleasant) experience with respect to the Clear Bra? If so, what works best for you (other than the obvious - keeping your car in the garage 24/7)?

I drive by a big lake with these midgies. I try and wash within 24 hrs - 48 hrs. But I always use the Rain-X bug and tar remover as a presoak (rinse car, spray remover on the front areas, pause and mix soap bucket while the remover is working, lightly wipe bugs off with a wet microfiber used only for that, rinse remover off completely, then start my wash with soap and a cotton wash mitt). They come right off.
My mask is the 3M Scotchguard if that matters.

I would recommend Stoner Tarminator for getting the bugs off. If you're washing the car, pre-soak the spots and then scrub it like you would normally. That should do the trick in the future. Don't let it dwell too long and you won't have any problems.
You can wax and polish that clear bra like you would paint. Just be mindful of the edge. If the bug & tar doesn't work, try some cleaner wax, clay bar, or a light polish to remove them.
