Cleaning your C A I filter?
Cleaning your C A I filter?
Those of you who have an aftermarket cold air intake and filter. How often are you cleaning the filter? And what do you use to clean it? How often are you oiling it? When should it be replaced?...thanks.
I clean/oil mine at each engine oil change (5-6K miles). I keep a spare on the shelf prepped and ready so I don't have to wait for the filter to dry. I change the ProCharger oil at the same time. I use the cleaning kit sold by Steeda. Their oil is blue so it looks better in my engine bay.

I clean my C&L air filter once a year in the middle of June, when the pollen goes down. I use the K&N recharge kit sold at most auto parts store
Thanks for your feedback everyone. I'm doing my oil changes about every 7k miles. I think I'll clean and oil the air filter every 5k mi or so. A portion of the road I live on is dirt, so 5k mi. Will work out well for me I think.
Likewise, I have an Amsoil blue filter - dry. They don't need cleaning for a looooooooooong time. And they stay blue - sans oil. The other brands I've had on there before (oiled), I swapped out within a year, so I never cleaned any.
I don't use a specific timeframe, just clean it when it looks dirty (red filter turning blackish). I have the JLT big air intake on my RS3. I finally bought a second filter so I can just switch the one on the car out then clean it whenever I get around to it. My last change out was after about 10K miles of daily driving. The S&B cleaning and oil kit comes in Blue or Red oil, has a cleaner, and a premeasured applicator/bottle you fill with oil based on your filter size so you never use too much or too little oil. They say you can do at least 3-4 services with each kit. I went by the directions oil volume for my filter size, and still had to dump some of the unused oil back in the bottle to use for next time. Filter looks brand new when I used this kit.

**** that looks good......and on topic....don't overoil or overclean these things. You do too much cleaning and you break down the fibres in the cloth and impair the already suspect filtering of oiled filters.
Hey that looks familiar! I wonder who steered you to the Amsoil filter? hmmmm LOL Looks awesome man.
