To Buy or Not to Buy?

So I have been lurking in here trying to convince myself to buy a 2013-14 GT to replace my last one which was stolen, totaled, then recovered. This will be my 3rd GT, but I haven't been able to pull the trigger until seeing what the '15 was going to look like. Well... now I've gone and fallen in love.

So I want the '15, but, It's been too long since I've had a Mustang so I'm looking into possible options. What I'm thinking of doing is buying a cheap used GT to drive for the next year, then trade it in once the '15's become available. My hope would be that buying used would help keep depreciation to a minimum, but I'm not sure how much a new body style will affect that.

My question is how much would you guys estimate I would lose to depreciation by driving the car for a year?

I have a company vehicle for work so we are talking 6,000 miles/year as a very generous over estimate. what do you guys think?

PS: Pics of the late mustang

I agree with Diva. Save up for a great down payment. Then you will have cash for mods!

You have about ten months to wait for a '15.

Yeah I guess you guys are right... I've just been driving around my old '91 prelude, which is a great communter car. But my cousin I live with, who said he would wait until next year so we could get new cars at the same time, went and picked up a new camaro a few weeks back and I pulled up with the biggest WTF face ever, and about 30 minutes of "mother f#@ker!"s

Anyway it's sent me into a frenzy, because I've always been the one with a muscle car, and now he went and got sneaky, and now I have to wait until September to show him what proper engineering and mechanics look like.

I'm gonna go against the group and say yeah, get the used one to drive now, but then wait for the 2016 to come out. Ford really hasn't had a very good track record lately with first year models (think '10 Taurus and '13 Escape... both of which I had the misfortune of buying ). Give them a chance to fix the things that will inevitably go wrong.

Innerweb chatter seems to indicate the new design is different enough to be a love/hate thing... so I'd expect a solid resale market for the '11-'14s.

I would say go for a 2016 as well. Pick up an early 2000's for cheap if you want something for now. I though about doing this but wanted a 2014 and didn't have a need to wait to see what came out in 2015.

Yeah, that's another thing I was thinking, because I have never thought getting the first year of a total redesign was a good idea.

I guess on one hand I know the smart thing to do would be to wait, but on the other I have this camaro taunting me every afternoon when I pull up and like a crack addict that needs his fix, all I can think about is Ford vs. Chevy.

This. I was on the fence but just bought a 2014 because you never know what problems can be prevalent. Plus, I got a fantastic deal on this one , will be making large enough payments to have a good amount in the vehicle so I could jump at any moment. Not to mention first years will probably be scarce and there will be a large amount of markup on them...

Depending on the deal you got, you could break even in a year and half. I, unknowingly, bought my last GT to only have a for a year and a half. I broke even when I traded it. I would also wait for the '16 instead of a '15.
That being said... after looking at this last year... I don't know know how much harder it would have been to go through it without a Mustang. Mines been getting worked on now for a week and a half and it's killing me!

If you do buy now, just really FIND a good deal and try not to put a lot into it just to sell in a another 1.5 years.

It may be worth mentioning I can also get the A plan price, my aunt installs the hood and dash in the mustangs at the Flatrock plant. So when it does come time to buy the new one I will only have to negotiate trade in price, once agreed, I'll drop the A plan bomb on them.
I love Ford, hate dealerships.

According to Ford policy, you are supposed to tell the dealer up front if you are eligible for any "plan" pricing, or they can deny you the price.
