Makes sense to me. And keep in mind - though many want to eek out every little horsepower at the top end on a graph - the real question for real world driving is "where will I be in the power band when I upshift to the next gear?". If you are at the point that the next upshift puts you at or near peak torque, no need to stay in the lower gear for every little bit of rpm to redline... shift and ride the power band to the top again.

I spin my Boss/Steeda/85mmBBK/ARH combo to 7400. Make 432 @6950 rpm, about 410 at 7400, on track I shift 3-4 at 7400, 4-5 at 7200. Have run like this fo almost 6000 track miles and 23000 overall.

Ditto. Based on that I'd set the rev limit at 7100. Pick up a few MPH in each gear. Why spin higher for virtually no gains?

Higher RPM makes sense for Boss guys as that engine is made to rev higher. But for a GT engine playing it "safe" would be 7000-7100 RPM in my opinion.

You never shift at the power peak, always shift past the peak so that when the revs fall back in the next gear the engine doesn't fall completely out of the best power range. This is the reason to rev beyond 7K.

When my car gets to the rev limiter it is still pulling like a freight train, wants more rpm, and this on a stock tune.

That surprises me you would say that with a 6spd.

Using the graphs as my guide (with the tune) are you saying if you upshift at or just below redline that you are lower than 4k (peak torque) on the 5.0 w/6spd?

Don't know what graphs you are looking at, not that it matters. You go to the track with a Mustang GT with the rev limiter set high enough and truly try both ways of shifting and the one shifting above peak power 300-400 revs will be faster.

factory rev limit + 400 rpm

Ford sets the valvetrain up so that its stable for an additional 400 rpm over the factory rev limit. After that its hit or miss.

Agreed but what would that be at the general idea is that our limiters are at 7000 but this is another hit or miss subject

So then just raise the rev limiter to like 7200 on a stock intake GT and call it a day. don't even bother with the boss intake at that point, you won't be any faster.

^ This is what I run also! My car continued to make power up to about 7,500 so I start getting ready to shift around 7,200 so the shift is right around 7,400 RPM.

Anywhere from 7,100-7,500 is good to go. These cars love to revved out!

Hope this helps.

I'm waiting to see if Comp Cams introduces a set of conical valve springs for the coyote. They are focusing on the LS engine but it looks like a really promising technology.
