Angry Beware of scam

(I searched and didn't see anything like this posted. If it was I'm sorry.)

I just saw this on another car forum and thought I would post it here, just in case they are pulling it with other car brands.

Nice catch. I hate it when people try to play the I'm in the military crap in scams more than anything else. Hopefully people start learning about this so it stops happening as much.

A good warning for us all! That scam is probably used on many items we'd love to buy.

This is an old scam.

The last one I saw on craigslist was about a '70 Boss 302 that was overseas and they were they were only asking $7000 for this supposedly pristine car, even included a link to a bunch of pics. All you had to do was send them half the money up front and they would ship the car to you in an ocean container for you to inspect it, then if you liked the car you would send the other half of the $7000 to complete the sale.

Yeah, RIGHT!

Heck, it would probably cost $3500 just to ship the car if not more and they were only asking for a total of $7000 including the shipping for a '70 Boss 302 Mustang?

B.S.!!!

This dumb biotch I was dating last year was looking for her first car. She was scouring CL and stumbled upon an "amazing deal" on a Acura TL. Of course she used my email to find out if it was authentic. Of course it was a scam. Of course now my email is still spammed to this day by random links to "need a girl?" links. Of course she's not around anymore. Ugh.

In another online universe I'm a scam baiter. (People who deal with (mostly) Nigerians by wasting their time and in some cases get funny pics) and it's really sad to see people still fall for these types of scams. Craigslist is a hotbed for scammers, ebay is too but they're finally starting to crackdown on it.

As for this particular posting. It's quite evident it's a scam and one of the more well thought out ones I've seen. The grammar is right on and sounds American enough. However, to my knowledge ebay doesn't do any of these pie in the sky things he claims they'll do. Just an obvious total fraud.

From EBAY: (Quoted from post on other forum)

"If you're buying a vehicle on another site and someone offers eBay Purchase Protection or claims to be affiliated with eBay, it's probably a scam.

Be cautious about vehicles offered on Craigslist, AutoTrader, or other online sites that claim to be eBay transactions. They're not."
There is no such thing as an ebay agent, craigslist and ebay are competitors.... not affiliates.

Yeah missed that but I see nothing has changed. Still more amazing that the very same old tricks are being used.

I wonder if some division of law enforcement has ever targeted scammers like this with some kind of sting operation where they attempt to counter-scam the scammers into revealing their identity so they can be monitored and eventually prosecuted. That would be awesome. Then again, now that I think about it, most of these scams come from foreign countries, so I guess there isn't much they could do.

Not a lot can be done. The most they can do is notify the Nigerian EFCC, and a lot of good they are. Eyeroll...

when i was selling my 05, a guy emailed me telling me he is the assistant to some dude who wants to buy my car but had a family emergency in germany. the "receiver" would give me a check for $20K, i cash what my car was worth and give the "receiver" the additional money. the "receiver" would then take my car and drive off. i thought it was odd that some guy, with more than enough money to have an assistant, wanted a V6. talked to one of the security guys at my work and he told me it's been an old scam, i was glad i was smart enough to notice it was fishy.

9 out of 10 times, these things don't work. but there's always that one idiot who buys into it and gets screwed.
