The only problem with a dedicated track car (outside of having to have a tow vehicle and trailer) is that you STILL want to drive it every day

I keep telling myself that one day I'll gut the interior, put in a roll cage, do suspension work, slicks, headers with CAT + muffler delete, and keep my race pads in permanently. And right after that thought enters my mind I think, "wow, I want to drive my car like that NOW!" Modding is a disease I tell you

Yeah my car in its current form, is a good bridge for that gap between cruiser and track car. To be honest, I'd be happy with a little Miata as a fun track car. It does make me sad that of the 5200 miles my GT has already, almost all of it has been to and from work. It feels like such a waste of an awesome machine

That is very true, if you're having fun then it isn't a waste.

Smile per gallon is a good way to look at it.

Miata in a fun at the track. I pass quite a few of those in my Mustang though during track weekends

And when you say "designated track car" I'm thinking more like the second picture in post #7 on this thread

LS and all? Unless that's a Dodge motor. Dedicated track car is definitely the way to go so that you don't have to worry as much if you ball it up.

I know, you're right. Problem is I don't have a trailer, a vehicle to tow it with, or a place to keep any of. My winter car is too old to haul stuff, and I only have a 2 car garage

I think I'd like that cage car better with a Ford Racing Aluminator crate engine . In that picture it is a Corvette LS engine. Same in the Panoz in the first picture.

Since the thread has already gone completely off track I'll continue with it. Why wouldn't you use an LS, lower center of gravity, good torque, smaller than a Coyote and probably weighs as much.

This. To be honest, the longer I have my car, the more I feel Ford has made a big mistake with these 4v DOHC engines. There's a time and a place for an engine that has 400+ hp, and has to be revved to 7k RPM to find it. I know I'm on the stock tune, but it's just not fun to drive this car slow. It needs to be driven hard to be fun, and if you drive these cars fast, you are WELL into "arrest me and impound my car" speeds.

This is pretty true, I love the 3.73's but the gears are quick and if you try not to waste gas you end up rolling pretty slowly and quickly shifting. All in all though I love the motor in the car, but if I were to make a track car it would have a V8 swap and if I were doing that it would pretty much have to be an LS.

I don't think I could go to a GM platform, as there's tons of SB Ford engines that could be built up for almost as cheap and just as reliable as an LS, but for a street car, I want for more low end torque. And I'm really considering going down to 3.31s or even 3.15s, for the sole desire of wanting to wind out 1st and 2nd longer on the street. I wish I could've gotten the TP upgrades with the 3.31s. There was a time where Ford would let you order your car however you wanted. I also would've ordered the cloth Recaros instead of leather.

For me it's a matter of personal preference. I work in the industry, and I did my vehicle dynamics and limit handling in a Z06. I have worked on countless Corvettes and Camaros as well.
I totally agree with Lasered, the Coyote L-O-V-E-S to be north of 4000rpm. But if you're at the track, you'll hardy ever be below 4000rpm, so I've been very happy with tracking my Coyote Mustang. I love how quick revving the Coyote is versus the LS, and how high the engine revs. Second gear with 3.73 is jaw dropping.

Sure, an LS powered Corvette Z06 will get away from my Mustang quickly, as the second video in the link I posted above shows. But that's mostly because the vette weighs 3118lbs versus 3650lbs of my Mustang, not because of the LS engine per se. (plus he had slicks)

So to me a perfect track engine would be a forged Coyote revving to 7500rpm for ~450hp and 400tq. Particularly if you put it in a 1700lb track car!

That would be a very fun car, I can see the advantage of a Coyote, just wish it wasn't such a giant motor.

My problem is I just love the sound of a V8. If Ford offered a car the size of an FR-S, with 4 seats (even if the back seats are as small as the FR-S seats), front engine/RWD, with a 2.5L V8 with say 230-250hp, it would be PERFECT for daily driver use. Fun, but not fast enough to get arrested in.

People have found the fix to that problem, it's an LS swapped FRS, not sure if you could swap a Coyote into it since the splay is so wide.

the FRS is a very fun car. even though its not that fast, you can still get pulled over if you let the back end go wide (which it does VERY easily)

I'm okay with tickets. I'm not okay with being arrested and having my car impounded. That's the difference between a 200hp fun car and a 400hp fun car lol

Remember, it's only illegal if you get caught.

And how fast do you have to go to get arrested/impounded?

I'd love a chance to drive one of these one day. With 275's on the rear
