I need to pick up a battery tender, and I was looking at the Deltran Battery Tender Plus. Would that be one that you guys would recommend. I've not used one before, so looking for a recommendation.

 

Great choice. Saw them today at two Costco stores for $39.99. They are not listed on their website but they are definitely available in the stores. Best price I have seen.

 

Works great. That's the one I have and I have been using them for years on my Mustangs, Harley and past ATV's

The Deltran unit is identical to a Battery Tender (not JR) which I purchased two years ago. I only started to use it now. I park my 2013 GT Premium for about a month before I move it and gotta give the stock Motorcraft battery credit: I have gone up to 3 weeks without starting the car and it did. However after 1.5 years of this, I think the constant cycle of draining is taking it's toll. Two weeks ago I couldn't start the car after 3 weeks, although dome lights and key unlock worked, as the starter was too weak. I now hook up a Battery Tender all the time and let it trickle charge.

I use the accessory connector that you bolt up to the + and - terminal of the battery and has a small bullet plug at the end of an 8" wire. The instructions say to hook up the negative to the car chassis, not battery post, however you have no choice when you use the connector, but I guess it's not a big deal with trickle charging. BTW, the instructions say the Battery Tender is spark proof. It's probably due to that square thingy they have inline on the wires that come with it.

I leave the Tender unit outside the car and fish the wire up under the chassis to the plug connected to the battery. I feel it's better cooled this way.

They have units now that are even smaller than the Battery Tender. They are about the size of a laptop charger and supposedly you can even jump start the car with one.
