Thats not true for all cases. I worked with a guy that got tboned from a red light runner. The guy told the cop "I dont stop at red lights out here during the night because no ones around this time of night". The red light runner was driving a honda accord and it hit my coworkers xterra so hard it moved it eight feet to the side.

OP Sorry to hear about the Stang. I am glad these are car very safe and that our fellow stangers are walking away when these things happen.

Adrian, I said it would prevent a lot, not all. Apology accepted.

I would imagine you were joking, but still, misplaced humor. Not cool.

ORPHEUS!!! Buddy.... I am SO sorry to hear about this. I know you and I JUST got our cars roughly the same time, back in November/December couple months ago. Your car couldn't have been more than 2 months old.

Firstly, am glad you are physically ok. No major injuries, and you're walking. As for the car, it's a material thing... don't worry about it too much. Get it totaled, then get another asap. Deysha will be your friend again. Can't believe folks that run red lights. How simple a concept is red = stop, green = go?

The car can be easily replaced. This is what insurance is for; you cannot be. We are all glad to hear you escaped with only minor soreness.

New Mustang time when you heal up!

I've been on the phone a lot today with the insurance company and things are getting taken care of swiftly. First glance is that the car will be repaired! But, and I repeat but that was the adjuster just looking at the car before putting it on the rack. On Monday the insurance company is doing what they call a "tear down" of all the damage to see what underlying damage there is. If it is deemed unrepairable then it will be totaled. Otherwise, it's gonna be fixed. I am anxious to get off work and go down to Green Bay to see it now that I am not in shock. I plan on getting some good pictures and will post them tomorrow morning.

I can't express my thanks enough to you all for your concern about my health. Amazingly, I am completely fine, a tiny airbag burn on my left hand and thats it! I expected to feel run over when I got out of bed this morning but feel great physically. The car really did protect me well. I have a CG-lock on my seatbelt that I always wear snug, don't know if that helped or not but it sure kept me in place. Also, after thinking about the way I was hit I think I was lucky to have been spun with the cabin of the car being the center axis. I didn't get a severe jolt.

As for red light runners, like anything, you'll never get rid of all of it. I like the idea of the delay. You know they say you can't fix stupid, but it can be numbed with a baseball bat. Lol.

I am man enough to admit that I shed a tear. I have had it for just over 6 weeks, 1100 miles and sent in the first payment last week. What makes me most sad about the whole thing is that if totaled or fixed and traded in, I can't have another '12 in Kona and I am not that fond of the changes to the '13.

Try to push to get them to total it. Not sure how you would feel about a car that was repaired and possibly with a salvage title I sure wouldn't...esp for a car that's 6 weeks old. So sorry buddy. Also, am totally with you on not digging the 2013 and the fact that kona is not available I dunno what I'd do. I'd probably go all out and get a shelby.

btw, I just realized you are from wisconsin. I used to live in appleton for 6 years.

Well here are pics not taken with a calculator. Now it is up to the appraiser to decide whats next. It is ugly and at what prices for parts and labor are it could get close to total fast. Agent said damage has to be 70% of actual cash value of the car (current). By my calculations that is about 23K in repairs. I'm pushing for a total. Otherwise, I'm gonna get it fixed, and order a "13 and trade this one in.

Wow .. that sucks! Unfortunately I do not see $23K in damage there ... Good luck...

PS .. if it gets totaled .. hook me up with that Kona Blue hood scoop!

So painful to look at. Thank god you walked away unharmed. Tears me up to see a mustang like that. I hope everything works out for you and you get back on the streets with another pony.

Let me guess...he was texting right?

Glad you're okay and it looks like the car protected you pretty well. Get pics up ASAP when you get into your new ride.

That's the bad thing about not getting it totaled and getting it fixed instead (I know you're at the mercy of your insurance.....)... because if you do want to trade it in, they will know/or you will divulge that's it been in accident, thereby lowering your value. Same goes if you try to sell it privately...if owner asks if it's been in a wreck??? But yeah, sadly I don't think that will be 23k in damages.

So sorry man.... that sucks.

Sorry about your car. It is good you are okay!

If they don't total it, I highly encourage you to go after a Diminished Value insurance claim on top of the repair bill.

I don't know many of the details as I don't know from personal experience, but I had a friend who's brand new $40000 Jeep was within something like $1000 of being totaled and they fixed it instead.

He had to do a lot of researching and coming up with documentation and such but he eventually got a diminished value claim check for around $5k because of the devaluation the vehicle suffered from being in a major accident.

Thanks for the input guys. I don't think the pics show the true magnitude of damage to the car. The whole front clip is about an inch out of wack. The doors "pop" when you open them. The entire passenger side strut tower area is collapsed.

There is another thread on here titled "one less" where the op was run off the road and hit a tree. His car didn't look much worse than mine. All his damage was contained to the front end and radiator support. No suspension damage visible in the pics and his car was totaled.

So I am hoping. Send positive energy! lol. I will let you know Monday night.
