About to pull the trigger on a 2013 Mustang and need negotiating advice
There is a salesman on the forum fiveOhbrian who i believe is in the washington state area. you might want to look him up hes on here very often, because as fellow stang enthusiast he will be able to help you out. he does alot for ppl on the forum answering questions and such i think several have bought from him. dont want to speak for him.
Ha, well i was only throwing brian out there becuase he seems to be relatively close by to the OP. No disrespect through omission intended!
I probably speak for many of those on the site that we wish we were close enough to buy from either of you. Here is someone who is pretty close and could take advantage of buying direct from a forum member. not trying to hate on the drop ship process or road trips to pick up either.
there i think i covered all my PC bases.

Brian would take great care of our OP here.
What I'm looking at getting
V6 Coup Premium
Eq group 201
Recaro, Perf. Package, Glass Roof, Rear video Cam, Accessory Package.
Using the price list I found on this site, THANKS BTW, The invoice (with holdback) comes to $31,608.50 and MSRP of $34,435. Edmunds says a fair price $33,450.
Now I'm at the point of "Where do I begin in negotiations?". The dealership had a 2012 premium marked up nearly $9k from MSRP. The dealer explained it that the owner had several lots to maintain, etc, turn a profit yada yada. But they also don't have ANY 2013s on their lots.
I have enjoyed my experience with this dealer. Very nice guy, young, fun. I want the company (Him mostly) to get his money's worth out of selling me this car, but I don't want to get ripped off either.
Do I go in asking for the $31,608 number or work towards that fair price from edmunds?
Also any advice on my options with the car itself is appreciated ^_^
~EDIT~
UPDATE: I went in today to talk price. I worked him down from MSRP+5k to right around 5% over invoice. 36,700ish out the door (incl taxes, fees, Oil changes till 10k mi, and all season spare tires). I'm essentially getting the car at the Edmunds.com true market value.
We haven't finalized anything yet, have to go in tomorrow to talk with the new car ordering guy to place the order. Getting it in Deep Impact blue ^_^ excited!

Invoice, or invoice plus anywhere to $500 plus seems fair for an American car company for regular cars. They have hold backs, the Europeans differ, so does buying a Boss or GT500 as they are limited in availability. Talk to the fleet or internet department, they will set you up better than walking in the door. Costco is also a good idea.
One other piece of advice, If you have a trade, tell the dealer you will be doing two transactions, one is you selling them a car, and the other is you buying a car, Keep them separate, otherwise things get confusing and muddled and you don't know what you are getting for either. On my buy, it was straight up for the car, I sold my current car myself on craigslist.
And finally, never, ever, negotiate prices based on payments. Never, Ever! Unless you really know your stuff you will have no idea what you are paying for the car or truck.

Granted I have to buy my own snows, which will be probably less than $1800. If you are in a big city, try a small town an hour or so away. They can't get away with over charging as they have a smaller client base. That said, over the last year this is the second car I have bought from the dealer, but I had the same deal on the last one. The dealer deserves to make a reasonable profit but over MSRP is crazy. My GT was built today, or so I am told.

How is this "deal of the century" ?
I stated that 0 to $500 over invoice was Okay. what is wrong with that?
I also stated that Boss or anything over was not in the same class and subject to higher prices. the GT is pretty pedestrian.

Please tell me where the "hate" was on this?
Or am I falling into the " don't argue with..."
What is your point?
The OP was getting racked through the coals for over MSRP on a V6 and you deem that okay?
I am sure there will be better deals than mine but I think the dealer needs to make a profit as well, my dealer seems to have a low overhead, is in a small town and is a good person, and will make a decent profit on the sale, and finally, will get warranty work reimbursement. And you have a problem with this why?
I have also purchased other vehicles, the latest one in a major metropolitan area. I contacted the internet/fleet sales person and all of a sudden things became reasonable. I paid invoice plus $300 for that truck, and when we closed the deal I had to go through the gauntlet to decline the paint treatment, rust treatment etc. and then we were done. That rep was one of may favorite at a large dealership. the gauntlet was not his issue, but that of the dealer. That said, I prefer to deal with a small dealership in a rural area. I was never asked for that extra crap there.
Again, I have to ask where is this "hate" you speak of?
The OP was offered a crap deal and asked for comment. I gave comment. I did not say I chiseled the dealer down to 10 bucks over hold back. I stated that I found a dealer and we both agreed to a price with zero negotiation other than me asking if I could by at invoice.
This is how it went down, Can I order at invoice? HMM, Okay. That will work.
Please tell me how this is "hate"
Or again, am I falling into the don't argue..."
