Life my internet chum is far to short to be taken so seriously I dont see where this discussion cannot combine awesome facial hair and fuel effeciency. Obviously there is a correlation between the two.

well if you are riding on a motorcycle, the person with the least facial hair would get better mileage. if everything else was equal.

And the person with the least ears would get even better mileage.

Has anybody on this forum driven or own a MazdaSpeed6 or Lincoln MKZ?
I would like to hear some feedback on both the I4 Turbo and the 35 V6.

My buddy has a 2006 Mazda Speed3 - we installed a CAI and new downpipe on it recently but even stock, it is a QUICK little SOB. No apparent type of lag with throttle response - she moves

I'm just glad the conversation hasn't migrated to hair-styles of the 70's.

I've driven both flavors of the MKZ. FWD and AWD. The D35 is a strong motor. In the Lincoln, it is very quiet and responsive, though not as much fun as a Mustang GT.

A curious thing to note. The FWD and AWD cars do not "feel" like the same vehicle. I expected some torque steer with the AWD model. What I got was something that was completely neutral. The steering was completely lacking in feedback from the road. It was if the steering wheel was disconnected from the front suspension. It reminded me of a Town Car, somewhat isolating the driver.

The AWD vehicle had a completely different feel. Same car, same motor, different response. There was a much more positive feedback from the steering wheel with AWD. The car felt tighter, the suspension firmer (without being harsh).

The MKZ is a very nice vehicle--luxury at a very reasonable price. The AWD cost more, (37,595 list vs 34,795 the vehicles I drove) but well worth the additional price IMO. The FWD is a car for those who are just along for the ride. The AWD is more of a driver's car.

PS

I enjoyed the THX sound system with Satellite radio--excellent option.

I own a Mazda CX-7 and my roomate has a Mazdaspeed 6. The I4 turbo is great motor, fast, powerful, very little lag; but it's very sensitive to reformulated gas (gas with 10% ethanol). My roomate works where they just have plain gas and we live where it has the ethanal. He gets 26 mpg on the plain gas (car is only rated at 25) but he gets 22 if he fills up around home.

Any time they substitute alcohol in the vehicle there will be a drop in fuel economy the A/F ratio for gasoline is 15:1 (well 14.7:1 actually) where ethanol requires more like 5:1 (IIRC). I think somebody said it best somewhere here or on another board. Gasoline really is a miracle fuel. Cheap and easy to produce while packing alot of energy in it to get the job done.

That's true but my V6 Mustang got 29 MPG highway (75-80mph) on that crappy gas. And it's EPA rating was only 29. And they only go a max of 60mph for that rating.

Quote from the link above: There's no word yet as to whether the new motor can take advantage of the superior knock resistance of ethanol to provide a horsepower bump, but this seems like an ideal platform on which to roll out such a feature. The horsepower junkies among us might also want to consider that an injector sized to flow enough E85 for 400 HP will probably support at least 600 HP on gasoline. END QUOTE

First they say that ethanol's superior knock resistance might allow for a HP bump, then they say 400 on ethanol and 600 on gas.

Am I the only one confused by this?

It does seem funny as you read it but it is true becasue...

Ethanol requires a larger injecter since the air/fuel ration needs to be more rich. so if you take that injector size and use gas it could do more hp...

But Ethanol takes better to boost since its equivilent octane rating is about 105. So it has the potential for higher boost and allows higher hp.
