That's odd, the LS7 is supposed to be on the way out, the LS9 was developed to replace the 7 as a cheaper alternative. The LS7 is nearly twice the cost of a regular LS engine, I cant see them doing that with the Camaro, not to mention the LS7 maybe can be squezzed for another 50 or 60hp in emmissions legal trim.
IMO if the 400hp 5.0 arrives, the GT500 will get 600hp - its available now with a limited warranty from both Ford Shelby so I can see it as the next evolution. The block can handle it no problem and the recipocating assembly could be raided from the Ford GT(40) parts bin if thats the real weak link.
According to GM it will be out in the Spring of 09', same as the Mustang. I bet they both come out within weeks of each other. I just hope everyone here is right about the 11' GT. It makes me wonder what they have in store for the GT500 if we get a 400HP GT?

I believe we ought to know better than to jump to conclusions, though, regarding vaporware. I remember how everyone dismissed the Mustang vs. the Challenger; it, too, has the bigger engine, bigger brakes, IRS, blah blah... From all of the caparisons I've read, the Challenger was actually outperformed by the Bullitt in terms of handling! Acceleration was very close between the two cars, too The Challenger's mass, obviously, did the car in in these tests; I believe the same will hold true for the Camaro. I believe that the Challenger and Camaro need these 400+-horsepower engines, big Brembo brakes and IRS because of the added mass when compared to the Mustang.
The Cobalt SS was around 3 seconds faster than the GT at VIR, but thats with the mushy all season shod suspensions of the 05-09 GT's. I'm sure on C&D's next LL the optional suspension equipped GT and/or the GT500 will show up for comaprison.

WOOHOO!!! Yeah!
I like the SRA... It's strong, easy to work on and means that the car is cheaper to buy in the first place.
How often can you push your car to it's limits on the public road anyway...?
It's part of the Muscle Car ethos to have a SRA... I say keep it!!!!
Go Ford!
