What are you guys talking about? It goes from 5mph increments up to 100 and than goes to 10mph increments to 220. It makes sense to me.

I like what I see. I wasn't sure how they'd integrate the Shelby styling onto the mainstream cars, but they've done an excellent job. The only things I'm completely not sold on are the blackout panel between the tail lights and the rear as a whole (it is better than it was, though, I will admit that), but I'll have to reserve final judgement for when the Chicago Auto Show comes around in February. Deep Impact Blue looks awesome in the press shots and could replace Sonic Blue as my favorite shade of Ford blue.

However, there is one thing that I'm taking issue with, and that is the SelectShift feature. I'm not complaining that they added it (it should have been added years ago IMO), but rather the execution. I do not understand why they felt that the dinky toggle switch from the Focus and Fusion was acceptable here. Would a set of paddles (or a shift gate similar to that of the Fusion Sport) be too much to ask for, or is there some kind of legal thing that I'm missing?

Overall, I give it a 9 out of 10.

Whew! I was a bit worried that after buying a 2012 I would like the 2013 better and regret my decision. Thankfully, this is not the case and I now appreciate my 2012 even more.

No offense to anyone, but in my opinion the 2013 looks like someone went on a shopping spree at PepBoys and "pimped out" their 2010-12. I think the 2010-12 looks much more classic in comparison and will age much better. As usual, less is more, but I have no doubt that more people will like 2013-14 than the more conservative and harmonious 2010-12, as for most people more is more. The only things I see that I'd like on my 2012 are the LED fog lights and the new manual mode for the automatic transmission.

I will say that there are a lot more changes than I thought there would be. As for the interior, I think the new dash display is a mixed bag. While it does add some functionality and some neat features, I like the classic gauges on the 2010-12. As with the rest of the redesign, it's more futuristic and less retro.

I do applaud Ford for offering more options, although they could have done this easily before. I'm glad automatic buyers now have the option of getting the Brembo Brake and Performance Packages. (I personally would not get the former on the GT, but I would and the latter on the V6.) The Recaros are also a nice option, although I don't see them as being too popular, especially on the V6.

If you search this and many other Mustang forums, I am sure you will find MANY threads that talk about the "UNHARMONIOUS" (is that a word? ) rear end of the 2010-12.

Your observation demonstrates that, indeed, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

When I look at the general silhouettes of both, they really look quite similar. I am certain the average layperson would not even catch the details like those of us who love these cars.

That said, I definitely appreciate my 2010 GT and like some of the changes on the 2013, so I will look forward to those who try to adapt certain elements back to the '10-'12s.

Overboost

There are three items on the 2013 that I think are worth trying to add to the 10-12s

1 - Rear tails and center section.
2 - LED fog lamps in grille.
3 - Heated mirrors.

1 - Just because they look great, and I think on my Kona car, they will help darken up the rear a bit more. I don't mind the 10-12 tails, but they don't wow me either, other than being full LED. If I can't swap them, I'll replace the backup lamps with LEDs and leave them alone.

2 - Anyone with HIDs has to appreciate Ford going with something for the grille lamps. These haven't matched since the introduction of HIDs on the S197 in 2007, and the LED bulbs/lamps might just be the answer. This should be an easy swap, but at this point nobody knows until part listings come out.

3 - Again, from a practical standpoint, having heated mirrors on colder days where they fog up is fantastic. I don't really care about the pony projectors on the ground, but if I can integrate them both, I will. Hopefully the wiring for the mirrors already has accommodations for the heated mirror signal, which would make this a really simple swap. We know Ford has put provisions for products in some of the earlier cars (like the power for the HomeLink mirror) in and not used it until later, so we might get lucky yet again.

Not to discredit anyone's opinion, but a common trend I see is: people with the 2010-2012 design are relieved that the new model is worse in their eyes and happy with their purpose, while people without 2010-2012 are more evenly distributed in their opinions.

I saw the same thing when the 2010 came out: A lot of "Whew, glad I bought my 2008/2009, no regrets now!!!", while the responses from those who did not just recently purchase a 05-09 model were more evenly distributed.

Again, not to discredit anyone's opinion, but I think alot of new model hate has to do with human psychology and the tendency to look for reasons to reinforce one's purchasing decisions as being good decisions.

I'm no exception - I have a 2008, and I thought the 2010-2012 seemed like it was too modern and would not age as well as the more classic 05-09. However, I think this 2013 design is a huge improvement... probably will not age as well as 05-09, but it has me interested in buying a new car again...

On not aging well:

I think alot of the cool futuristic looking ideas, originally introduced to the mustang in the 2010 model, and expanded upon in the 2013 model, may not age well.

Look at the E30 BMW M3 from the early 90's... in its time, I bet it looked really futuristic and classy. Now it looks overdone and ricey:



Yeah, that's what it looks like stock. I think some of the elements in our current mustang, like the extra fins in the bumper where the fog-lights should go, the tail lights, etc., will look similarly excessive in 20 years...

But yeah, I'm still getting in line to buy a 2013. Done w/ my depressing ramble...

Yep, I'm not sure why every Taurus gets paddles and the Mustang doesn't. The Taurus ones aren't great but better than a toggle switch.

I think there is some truth to what you say about human psychology, generally speaking, but it's really not affecting my view here. If I really liked the 2013 better, I'd be thinking about getting one. For what it's worth, I do think the 2005-9 will age better than the 2010-12, although I think the 2010-12 will age pretty well too. There are some things I like better about the 2010-12 than the 2005-9, to say nothing of the interiors and powertrains, but overall I think the 2005-9 looks more classic and will age better.

i don't own a 2010-2012 (im on foxbody #7)

that being said...if i did buy a new mustang,i would pick the 2012...the more i look at the 2013 the more i dislike...i can't put my finger on it...just something doesn't seem to flow...like the car is trying to be to many things,and it just doesn't all come togeather.

I see why Ford did what they did and fixed everything everyone was *****ing about on the '10-12 hoping to sell more cars. They did improve most of the things that most complained about. The only thing i do not know why they touched the front end. I did not hear to many complaints on that part of the car. I think if they would have left the front end and fixed the rest of the car it would be perfect. The painted parts that were black on the '10-12 just make the car look so much heavier and piggish. Everyone *****es about the pig look of the challenger and Camaro and now the Mustang looks just as heavy and cumbersome as they do.

Ive been praising almost every aspect of this refresh since tuesday morning. But that black plastic rear license plate surround is eating away at me. I loath it! Absolutely despise it! I wish it had a beating heart so i could strangle the life out of it. What the hell were they thinking!?!? It single handedly makes the back look too busy. I must paint it as soon as i get the car. I blame europe.
