Props to Ford!

Was that a typo in the press release in regards to the brakes? Autoblog states they are out of the GT parts bin, but the front size doesn't match. It should be 12.5" if it's the GT braking system.

Posi also. Its about time. Very very good job Ford. And a track pack for the V6. I didnt realize the 3.7 was 90 lbs lighter than the 4.o.

And as the numbers make clear, simple peak power output doesn't tell the whole story. Look at where those peak numbers hit in the rpm range and compare to the V6 Camaro...

Mustang: 305 hp at 6500 rpm, 280 pound-feet at 4250 rpm
Camaro: 304hp at 6400 rpm, 273 pound-feet at 5200 rpm

Given similar power numbers a higher peak for hp and a lower peak for torque suggests a fatter, flatter powerband in a lighter car. The V6 Mustang should compare nicely to anything in the price range and fares reasonably well against even the 370Z.

I'm guessing high 13's stock? Now, when does the embargo on the 5.0 lift?

I'd assume that it would be a drivers race with a 2005-2010 V8, given that the V6 has the weight advantage. Now that the V6 has a limited slip and power to back it up, this should be a 13 second stock car.

Check it out...per Jalopnik.
Ford's ditching the iffy Tremec in favor of a manual 6-speed Getrag co-developed with Ford called the MT82. Its claim to durability and smoothness fame is that all gears on all shafts ride on needle bearings.
Wow, going for power and smoothness.

Also per Jalopnik......

What we are interested in is the rather off-hand comment from one of the engineers regarding the track pack. Optional on the V6, the track pack turns things up a notch and makes it a track-day special. Said unnamed engineer mentioned there's a distinct possibility the track-pack equipped V6 will not only stick with the V8 track-pack 'Stang, it might even outrun it. Well, we would certainly be happy to test that theory out.

Farther down...

"Anyone who's been in the convertible knew cowl shake was a problem, and as such Ford's stiffened things quite a bit, the 2011 is over 1000% stiffer than the 2010. That's not a typo. The improvements come in underbody and cowl cross-bracing and structural foam injected into the door pillars. 1000%, pretty impressive.

We'll know about the 5.0 by the end of the week. They won't roll out one and leave everyone hanging for the other.

I'd be willing to bet that orders for 2010s are going to come to a screeching halt.

Ford's 2011 Spec Sheet in interesting, but I think the weights are messed up. It says the V6 coupe will be 3750lbs!?, vs 3400 for the 2010

Saw that, had to do a double take. By the way, it looks like the Performance Package brakes are GT calipers with smaller discs, curious to see how those flesh out.

Ouch.

And we used to laugh at Camaro and Challenger ...

Ford's goal for 2014 Mustang should be to keep weight on a base model under 3,000 lbs.

Not sure, but the press release on Autoblog said it was less than 3500lbs

Anybody else notice the forged steel connecting rods on the spec sheet? Kinda makes you wonder what the 5.0 is going to bring...

It's a typo, the same sheet says a V6 manual weighs 4000lb! In the press released Ford says that a V6 with the PP weighs in under 3500lb, and in one of these somebody quoted Ford as saying that the V6 Mustang weighs about 300lb less than a comparably equipped Camaro V6 IIRC.

I think all the Duratec V6 engines use forged rods IIRC.
