The 3.7 is surely going to be impressive, and I agree that we will not think of the V6s the same anymore. I know I don't, because I was seriously considering the V6 for 2011, something I would have never done before in a new car. Though I too will be getting a GT, as the Coyote is equally impressive, and darn pretty to boot.

However, I tend to think the torque numbers are more a measure of how the car will feel in terms of power, rather than HP. If you are going to compare based on a single number. If you consider it from that angle, you have to drop back as far as the late 80's / early 90's 5.0s before the new 3.7 V6 has as much torque as an older V8. Newer than that, I think all the V8's have always had 300+ torque. 280 is close, but not quite. From this viewpoint, the new V6 should feel like a typical Fox body 5.0 (maybe a little less, given that the Fox bodies were lighter). Pretty awesome, but not quite a match for a late model GT or Cobra.

Not only do you have to consider the peak torque, but you have to consider where the engine makes torque across the power band. The new Ford engines pull like diesels across the RPM range. Comparing a 280 ft/lb V6 with an old 302 V8's power range...

close but no cigar, as an old 5.0 likes to run out of steam by 5k rpm. 2000rpm to play with is a lot.

im still guessing high 13s for the 6

I was thinking the same thing. We can't definitively judge the torqueyness of the 3.7 as being inferior to the old V8's just based on the peak torque. Until we see graphs of both engine's torque and horspower numbers throughout the rev range, it's just guessing. Or until we can see acceleration numbers, of course. I don't expect that the 3.7 will be as quick as the 2005-09 Mustang GT, but it might give the 2 valve per cylinder 4.6 Mustang GT's a real run for their money.

Ford is obviously handicapping the V6 upfront with the 2.73s standard and 3.31s the only optional gear. Buy yes, I expect performance to be between New Edge GT and New Edge Mach 1 SN95s...

We'll see guys putting 3.73s and 4.10s in hopped up V6s soon enough, and those could be screamers.

IMO, the 2005-2009 Mustang interior is better than the new Camaros.

I owned a 94 GT and love V8s but the new V6 should be a high 13s car. I know that's a little too close for comfort for some 05-09 GT owners but I think the numbers are there. I have to think you'll see 275/255 at the wheels with a 6M on 91 octane. With 3.31s out back, the V6 has the same as 4.10s compared with the GTs. Similar weight and HP means similar trap speeds. Now that a T-lok is standard, the V6 should be able to put the power down.

Maybe drop the Auto, and shift yourself? Save almost a grand right there.

I ordered mine last week in a configuration that similar to yours. Looks like it will cost about 34k even with the X-plan. That's a lot of money, but I don't think you can get more performance for a lower price anywhere else.

Hello there. Im a brand new member. AND LOVE THE SITE.
anyways i live in Gainesville and flew up to my old hometown in Detroit to see the NAIAS on Jan 16th.
Loved the mustang, but was wondering where the signature "pony" went.
All ive seen was the billet grill with the tri stripe pony

What package includes the billet grill, and witch one has the regular pony ?
Also, another quick ?... Where has the "Preformance package" gone?
Bremo's were included with a diffrent axle ratio...
Thanks for the info guys and gals.

Have a good week and GO GATORS!..

-brian
