Deysha, how are dealers attempting to replicate the cold shifting issue as temps warm up in the northern regions? I had this issue with mine, but it has gotten better as the temps warmed up.

 

I'm taking mine in on Wednesday morning. Even though the temps have gotten to be better, I still get an occasional grind in the 2nd gear (especially when it's 40 degrees out and I haven't driven it at all).

All other gears are smooth, except the 2nd. I'm thinking it's the fluid. We shall see.

 

Took mine out Sat, it was 50 out. Shifted a little hard for 10 miles, then it was better. Not perfect. So i may have the fluid change done. Ronn

 

Overboost, they normally keep the car overnight and test it in the morning. You might want to speak to your dealer again and check on that new TSB about the fluid change. If you need any further assistance, do not hesitate to message me.

I dropped my car off last night for my dealer to see the issue this morning. When they asked the problem I basically told them exactly what's mentioned in the tsb. They followed the tsb and drained the fluid to put the new fluid in. They are keeping it overnight to test the car in the morning to make sure the problem is fixed. Will post after I get my car back.

 

I got my car back yesterday and just drove it today while it was still cold and the problem is fixed. It feels like a whole new trans. Thanks for posting the TSB.

 

From the sounds of things people have felt this grinding even when it's 50F out (that's about +10C up here..and that's a warm balmy day right now!) What have other Canadians experienced during the -20C to -40C weather? If the transmissions are acting up at +10C you would think you wouldn't even be able to drive in -40C!!

Mine has been in storage since Nov. 10th so I can't attest to any of this. From what I can recall the last time I drove it (feels like 5 years not 5 months...) I can't remember ever feeling what you guys are feeling.

 

There is cold ambient temperature shift effort, and transmission grinding. Two seperate issues. My car is getting the trans rebuilt right now because I had grinding and there were teeth missing off of the synchros.

 

One of my 2x 2011 Mustang GT's now has 12,000 miles... the grinding became a huge issue. 5th gear cannot be shifted into. Grinds 100% of the time. It used to be just a small grind in spirited driving, 3000+rpm before shifting. Now, the only way to use 5th is to turn car off, insert into 5th gear, hold shifter in place, then turn on car.. car will start rolling in 5th.

THIS TRANSMISSION SUCKS!

Dealership doesn't want to see the car, perform TSB's, or find a resolution.

 

My dealer performed the TSB even though they couldn't replicate it. It does feel like a whole new transmission.

 

PM Deysha here with your info and she will look into your claim or start one for you . . . sounds like you need to find a new dealer too.

 

Just found out that the shifter is mounted to the body and is semi-remote. It's not a direct-mounted shifter. This could be considered an iffy design choice, and might be the cause of some of the problems. Hoping (and confident!) that mine will be fine!

 

I cant believe this issue is still going on. I suspect there is a major design flaw of some sort. Ford needs to take the high road and fix it no matter what it costs them. How this was not caught in testing is a mystery to me. Ford is also quietly replacing transmissions in the new Fiesta as well. There have been a ton of them with issues. This is more like the old Ford and I for one am not impressed and it would make me think more than once before I let them have my money.

Who knows, it may fizzle with the arrival of warmer weather and the 2012's, then rear its ugly head again later this year when it gets cooler. Supposedly, according to another board, an ABC reporter is gathering info and may run a piece/"investigation".

Coming from a 5-speed Subaru, the 2011 I test-drove had a beautiful transmission. Hope my 2012 is the same (and stays that way)!

 

Ugh. I'm not going near one of these 2011 OR 2012 until someone figures this out. Surprise Surprise, more problems with Chinese made junk.

 

I hope it does also. I hope the main stream media gets wind of this. I dont have a dog in this fight but I understand how hard it is to afford a new Mustang and there is no excuse for this imo. Its not like they have never built a rwd stick shift car before. Im a Ford man but when you start trying to shaft people and hide things then you get what you deserve. I simply would not lay out my money to Ford right now unless Im convinced they have fixed this issue. Built in China does not bold well with me either for a American muscle car.

 

You and me both . It will be interesting to see how the Boss does. Isnt it the same tranny?
