2011 6-speed manual skip-shift feature
I did not know that it was limited to only the 5.0.
I deactivated the skip-shift in my 06 GTO (Tremac) by simply inserting a resistor in-line. Took about 3 minutes during an oil change and can be accessed under the car right at the tranny. Cost was ~ $30 on an aftermarket website - it has factory type plug in harnesses on both ends. The skip shift is an actual mechanical block that forces you to go from 1st to 4th, on my GTO it is accompanied by a flashing diagram on the dash. It is a major PITA in stop and go traffic. I am sure there will be an aftermarket solution to remedy it
I have had mine for a week now, and I have never had it engage. I too was worried that it would be a pain. But, I must say that I typically take off in 2nd (90% of the time) because I am in heavy traffic and 1st is very short. I would not worry about it.
Yep. From page 220 of the owners' manual . . . officially now my favorite page:
For the 3.7L V6 with 3.31 axle ratio, shift according to the following chart:
Upshifts when accelerating (recommended for best fuel economy)
Shift from:
1 - 2 13 mph (21 km/h)
2 - 3 26 mph (42 km/h)
3 - 4 37 mph (59 km/h)
4 - 5 43 mph (69 km/h)
5 - 6 59 mph (95 km/h)
For the 5.0L V8, shift according to the following chart:
Upshifts when accelerating (recommended for best fuel economy)
Shift from (When not in skip shift mode):
1 - 2 17 mph (27 km/h)
2 - 3 25 mph (40 km/h)
3 - 4 40 mph (64 km/h)
4 - 5 45 mph (72 km/h)
5 - 6 50 mph (80 km/h)
Shift from (When skip shift mode active):
1-4 17 mph (27 km/h)
4-5 25 mph (40 km/h)
5-6 40 mph (64 km/h)
Skip Shift (if equipped) (V8 engines only)
This feature locks out 2 (Second) and 3 (Third) gears for improved fuel
economy. If the message center displays 1–> 4 SHIFT, shift the
transmission directly from 1 (First) to 4 (Fourth), otherwise you can
shift normally. Refer to Message center in the Instrument Cluster
chapter.

Again, sorry new to this new skip shift feature.
Sorry I made a mistake. Last Mustang was was 1985 with the old Borg & Warner tranny. Although not reviewed greatly, these days, I found it amazing on my old steal block 5.0

I won't reply to everything, but... (that wasn't just directed to you before, I'm just so tired of hearing people moan about things that the govt really didn't affect, but its just the cool thing to do now I suppose, recently I've just reach a point where i say something from time to time).
I don't really disagree with the Patriot Act (whats to worry/complain abt if you are doing nothing wrong), but i'm sick of people (not you, people in general) complaining that they will lose their "rights" to every current administration policy.
With the economy, things could possibly be worse if the govt didn't get involved, but I also don't agree those companies should have been aloud to just fail and let real amerian ingenuity come up with ways to fix it. But we definitley went through a phase where someone needed to do something to prevent these companies taking advantage of every situation just to make a quick dollar, not caring the impact on the american public and even their own future. I like capitalism in a way, but it doesn't work when corruption is invovled (just like everything else).
I don't think a policy would ever allow the current illegals to become citizens overnight (nor should they be given that right), but having them become citizens legally(by going through the current process) would probably help the country. Think what all that tax revenue could do.
Back on topic... I really can't wait til I get everything together financially after my daughter is born, in a few years I will be upgrading to a 6-speed 5.0, and the skip-shift won't be a factor when buying. Don't let that impact any decision on getting this car, easy fix.
**I need to stop using parenthesis lol

I guess this is where we disagree. A libertarian like myself supports legalizing weed because I believe in individual freedom to make good or bad decisions. A democrat supports legalizing weed because it's another way for him to get more taxes to spend on stuff the government doesn't need to be involved in.
And republicans oppose legalizing weed because they are no fun.

With this skip-shift feature, I've always wondered why this isn't also applied to automatic transmissions if it is something that actually works. Letting the computer do the shifting and skipping gears would probably be less intrusive than having someone manually skip, especially if its unwanted. I'm also sure people that drive autos, like myself for now, wouldn't have as many complaints, and a tune could possibly get rid of it for those that didn't want that feature.
Sorry about off topic stuff.

Jokerstars, don't worry about it. You don't have to drive like you're in a race to avoid the skip shift. My 2000 Corvette has it. The only time it kicks in is when I'm leaving a light behind a string of cars going so slowly, that it doesn't matter. I'm not saying that I like having it, but it engages so rarely that I never bothered installing one of those bypass kits.

Welcome! LET THE INITIATION COMMENCE!
Now in all seriousness.
I haven't had to deal with the skip shift personally myself, but I know people who have. Both hated it and got a connector that blocks the skip shift input. Mostly people either learn to live with it or get something to disable it. And some people do just accelerate hard enough to avoid it kicking in, haha.

But when I later learned about the skip-shift feature on the 2011, I decided to change my order and go with the 6-speed automatic transmission because I feared the skip-shift would be too intrusive and I do a lot of stop-n-go driving. I'm glad to learn the skip shift is not that big of a deal but it's too late now to change my order for a manual (my 2011 GT is on a rail car somewhere in Illinois and the ETA is 5/24).
I'm really enjoying this forum/web site and getting to know some of the members. Interesting that some folks feel the need to inject politics in their answers to a simple question about a car feature. Oh well ...I'm a pretty laid back guy and just skip over those comments.
Lastly, FYI, I'm a long-time Mustang fan ...having owned many Mustangs over the years, starting with my 1971 Grabber Blue Mustang Mach 1. I have photos of them in my album for anyone that's interested.
Jokerstars, dude, you're indecisive, but I love your passion. TRUST me. You drive a '99 Honda or something. Nothing wrong with that. I own a Geo storm and a V-6 half ton truck. Yeah we both are coming to mustangs from some real performance beasts. You WILL be grateful for skip shift. The few times its hit, if I'd have breathed on the gas wrong in second I'd have rear ended someone. The "bog" it caused, eh oh well. Whatever import you actually have, this thing at 2K RPM in fourth would embarass. Book it. Mine with 3.73's even two gears ahead would be more than most people would ever need. If it saves me 50 bucks in gas over the next few years, meh who cares man. The pure fact of the matter is this car will flat out scare you WOT shifting at red line. I finally did that today. At the dealer while picking up the spare key and signing the certificate of origin. A crowd grew and I offered a ride. I went wide open from first through third. My passenger exited still not quite able to speak. He's been selling Stangs for years. That says something. Myself I needed a smoke and a thirty minute cooling off period.
My general train of thought on this. Hey you're in low revs in fourth... hey you've got more torque than most deisel trucks... I'll take it. Stop worrying about this car. You switched to a GT. She will scare you. Bring a towel when you take posession. I'm not even joking. My ride is basically your setup without the glass roof. This is an invitation. If you doubt the epic force of this car, PM me and I'll let you crash at my house and ::gasp:: drive it. I just want that to happen so I can read the thread, so I totally soiled myself today.

You can't even compare it to the Honda. Both my C5 'vette and my CTS-V were just stump pullers with all the torque they had. Your Honda would choke trying to start in 2nd.Jokerstars, you need to worry about how to keep the leather clean... move on from the silly skip-shift issue.
(Meanwhile, Jokerstars is posting a thread about how to keep the leather clean...)
