Again, sorry new to this new skip shift feature.

Sorry I made a mistake. Last Mustang was was 1985 with the old Borg & Warner tranny. Although not reviewed greatly, these days, I found it amazing on my old steal block 5.0

Since you refuse to read earlier posts in this thread that addresses this question, I'll reiterate here. No, you cannot disable it. Even if you devised a method, it would be in violation of federal law. It's kinda like removing the tag on a mattress. The feds will come knocking on your door.

Aftermarket already makes a device for the corvette:

Just a matter of time before the Mustang one comes out.

Just for giggles this morning I drove most of the way home from work starting in 2nd and going right to 4th with my '10 V6. No bother really. But of course, I didn't HAVE to. I wouldn't like it then.

You could do that all day long (or not) anyway. The skip-shift is a 1st-to-4th feature (skipping 2nd and 3rd).

@hawkeye18: So only 2nd ist block in Canadian Mustangs, or what!?
But what "exchange rate" is the reason for skip-shif in Canadian Mustangs?

Being aware that you were joking around, I nevertheless have to point this out: it is only illegal to rip the tag off before it reaches the consumer. Once you (the consumer) buys the mattress, you can rip it off to your heart's content. It's perfectly legal. I see a lot of people seriously thinking you're never allowed to remove the mattress tag, which is why I point this out. Read it carefully some day. You'll see what I'm talking about.

It was a joke regarding Canada's currency exchange rate with America - the canadian dollar has historically been about, what, 80% of the worth of the american dollar? So 4 becomes 3... you know what, just never mind lol. Forget I said anything.

Yes and the metric system is a factor as well...............

in Canada 3 means 1, 4 means 2.5 etc

From Someone With Actual Experience:

Okay admittedly not a lot as Ive only had it 2 days. I thought skip shift was broke on my car. i had to engage it intentionally.

1. Accelerate at very light throttle in 1st to 15-17 mph and shift.
2. Did it go into 4th.... hmmmmm.... cant tell...
3. Gouge throttle hard... yep I think thats 4th.

2. Repeat

3. Repeat

4. Memorize rpm in 2nd and 4th at 17 mph so I can tell without gouging on it..

5. Repeat... Yep thats 4th.

I have only engaged skip-shift when I did it intentionally. If I launch at really light throttle in 1st Im going to be in 2nd well before 15 mph. Most of the time Im either going to be gouging on it or launching in 2nd.

2nd Gear (2.43) in this trans is lower than 1st (2.32) in a Close-Ratio Toploader 4-Speed. Their is no reason to use 1st for normal driving unless its to pull off on a steep hill.

You can accelerate from stopped in second gear? Won't hurt the car? My Honda almost dies when I do this.

My V6 truck would launch from second with no issue, its all about gearing and torque. I just got home and saw this thread. Immediately got my keys, took my 3.73 geared 5.0 and drove around the block starting from 4th. Its late so I didn't want to get on it hard and bother anyone, but yes, you can launch from 4th gear. Maybe not the best thing in the world for the clutch, but out of second it'll launch harder than most cars on the road and not harm the clutch to any degree I wouldn't imagine. I did have skip shift come at me again today, again following granny from a stop light in congested driving. I noticed the skip shift warning on the tach mid shift and floored it to see how it reacts hitting fourth at low revs with the thing floored. It'll overtake granny a fair bit for about 3/4ths of a second before it hits 3 to 3.5K and it'll turn into a granny seeking missile.

This thing ain't no Honda. On a side note, I finally got her on dry pavement on a lonely highway after draining the dealer provided 87 and trying 89 octane... .

That's because Hondas have no torque. All the HP in the world isn't gonna help you start from a stop if you don't have TQ down low.

here is a link to a thread that discusses it. it is on the side of the tranny so you have to jack the car to get to it.

the link contains a pdf link to show where it is on the tranny..
