If I had to do it over again (and I may have that chance soon), I wouldn't get the vert, but everybody's different. There's a lot to love about the open top, but to me the disadvantages (extra $5k cost, flexible structure, floaty ride) outweigh the advantages. I will say that after 8,000 miles on mostly rough back roads, my 'vert is still totally quiet and squeak/rattle-free.

Make sure of that. I bought my 'vert envisioning back road blasts with the whole family (my wife + 2 girls) smiling in the breeze. Turns out neither she nor the girls were very fond of the 'vert after the 1st drive. Why? It's a hair thing mostly, and it's also a temperture thing.

Exactly my thoughts. y last stang was a vert and I loved it but My daighter hated the wind and rarely could I go all day with the top down comfortably. Seems it's always too hot or too cold etc.. Coupe was the no brainer for me.

My wife and I enjoy it very much. It shifts quite nicely in city driving. Even with a long commute it manages 24-26mpg in mixed city/highway driving.
A+. Just because it's an auto doesn't mean you must forgoe enjoying twisty roads. This is our GT 3 weeks into our ownership:
The presence or absence of a clutch pedal does not make a car enjoyable to drive.
Amazing - I can't wait to get it to the local dragstrip this spring. I can tell you the that the auto shifts faster than any stock auto I've ever owned. The RPM drop between shifts is incredibly small. Add this to the smoothness around town and it really makes the car rewarding to operate. My suggestion is test drive both and decide for yourself. Either way you're getting a Mustang so the chances are you'll be happy with whatever transmission you get.

As for the automatic transmission - I've never driven manuals as my primary car, so I can't tell you about that side of the coin, but I've found nothing lacking in this auto transmission (except that I wish it had paddle shifters). I drive in lots of traffic and it makes the drive pretty comfortable. It's also a complete and utter BEAST when you get a tune & gears.
As far as performance goes - for perfect 0-60, 0-100, 0-whatever times, just put your foot to the floor (though if you get a tune, you might need to modulate a bit). I autocross my car occasionally, and just throw it in 2nd gear the whole time. I don't really find a performance disadvantage with that. The manuals do get gear options and the brembo package option from the factory, which autos don't. I had FRPP 3.73 gears installed on mine, and the acceleration is astounding. I don't feel left out in any performance aspect.

Well alrighty then! The car below came with a clutch pedal. I hope you enjoy driving it. Me? I'll keep my slushbox, thanks.

I've owned 14 Mustangs and most were manual transmissions. The 6A is the first automatic I've driven that makes me feel as though I didn't give up any performance over the manual. I couldn't be happier with my automatic and recommend it to anyone.
