2011-12 GT & V6 Automatic owners

2011-12 GT & V6 Automatic owners, could you please give me feedback on your cars?

Do you like driving the automatic?

How do you rate the fun factor?

How do you rate the performance?

I currently own a 2008 GT (Manual), in the past, I have owned a 2001 GT (Automatic) and a 1987 GT (Manual).

Thank you for your time!

GTJOHN

If you want good gas mileage and still alot of power go for the v6 but if price for gas doesn't concern you go for the 5.0

If you don't want to shift your own gears, its great. Just need to be aware that it like to shift a lot when in normal mode. By putting it in hill assist mode, it is much more willing to hold gears longer under light throttle.

I have the 6 speed manual, with the 5.0, but honestly, if I lived in a city I would opt for the automatic. Since I live in Western South Dakota I love the manual. It is a joy on the back roads, and the rare trips into the city, well I try to avoid heavy traffic time.

My wife wasn't that happy, but she doesn't drive it anyhow. she has her Passat wagon, with the 6 sp auto that can be shifted manually.

Performance wise, I really can't compare since none of my Mustangs have had an auto. I can say there is nothing like shifting through the hills and playing on the twisties with it.

This is really a matter of personal choice and will suit your driving style and location.

I ordered a manual but only because I was indifferent to the option and didn't see the point of spending $1200 on something that I was indifferent about. My 01 was an auto and it was a blast to drive. Sometimes you just want to mash the fun pedal and go!

I use my stang as a daily driver in the greater toronto area. I loved manuals for a time, but traffic quickly destroyed that love. If I lived in an area with little to no traffic, I would buy a manual again. I am getting used to the auto, and appreciate its benefits; there are many. I like being able to keep my hands at 10 and 2 and floor it. Can;t do this with a stick.

I used to be a manual guy 100 percent. This auto will not disappoint. The gearing is very low in first gear equates to the same ratio as the 3.73 manual even with the 3.15 axle. Fun factor is there and you will be totally satisfied with this transmission. Massive acceleration .

I owned my 87 GT(Manual) for 13 years. It became my daily driver for half that time.
I got sick of shifting, especially when caught in traffic. Replaced the transmission, clutch, flywheel during that time as well. Pain in my a$$. So I parked it, and bought a 01 GT Automatic. Loved the car, but thought it was a dog!

Here I am now, with a 08 GT(Manual). Its a weekend toy, rarely drive it, but after driving it for a couple hours, I start to get tired of shifting. Its starting to remind me of my 87 GT in that aspect.

So I created this thread to get your feedback on the new engines with the Automatic trans. According to the data, the Auto's are nearly as fast as the manuals.

Doesn't the Auto 5.0 run a 12.9-13.2 QM? The Auto V6 is in the low 14's right?

I will have to drive one for myself, but all your feedback is helpful!

I love my auto, but only drive one because of knee problems. The daily commute through traffic wouldn't deter me from buying one, but I could see how it would get tiresome. I enjoy this car very much.

My auto ran better than the MT 5.0 the day I ran at the track. 13 flat up to 13.3 in the 1/4 mile.

FYI - I took my wife's new 2011 V6 to the track once and it did a 13.8, and that was just after two passes and I was still getting use to lauching it on street tires. The track was very busy, so I didn't get to make more passes. If I had, I'm sure it could've done 13.7 or better. Below is the slip.

I grew up driving manuals. Now, with a bad left leg (old age ) i drive automatics. Automatics are pretty good. Click on the link in my Signature to see and hear my V-6 automatic run. This is by far 'not' my best run, just the way things go when recording

You put a tune,CAI, DR's and you can run very low 12's. OMCAR ran a 12.08 with just a Lund tune, K&N drop in and DR's.

I am loving every thing about my auto! I have to drive 1 for medical reasons, too.

On performance, I don't/can't drive mine how it should/wants go be driven. I can be going 50 on the hwy, turn off my traction control, punch it & I get wheel spin! I feel like it's just as fast as manuals.

I get great gas mileage in it! Usually between 18 & 22 when I fill up. I wouldn't change a thing, if I could on my '11 5.0!!

If you can, get the 5.0.

I'm "trying" to hold out for the Next Gen Stang, but this is the way I am leaning right now. 1.) Sell or trade my 08 GT Manual for 5.0 GT/CS Auto Vert.
OR 2.) Keep 08 GT Manual and buy V6 Auto Vert.

I know Verts are a little heavier and slower, but I am just thinking of the fun factor. Wife loves verts.

3.) Continue to save money, and buy a Boss or Shelby.
4.) There's always a chance I will change my mind and get a 5.0 Manual-lol
