My guess is. It will launch on April 17, 2009, as a 2009.5 model. Marking the 45th anniversary.

I'm thinking that also. I'll take mine in Emberglo with a Parchment pony interior, please...

2009 1/2?

Its my understanding that the 65 mustang was never introduced as a 64 1/2 . Only after the generator and a couple of other things were changed later on in production did this difference get noticed therefore noting the early production run Mustangs. Is this right? or did Ford call it a 64 1/2 up front?

I believe you are correct, the Mustang was introduced in April 64 as a 1965 model.
If you look at the official production #s that Ford published, there is no listing for a 1964 Mustang, only 1965 and later.

You are also correct, that updates were added later in the year which distinguish early and later production 1965 Model Year Mustangs.

That's true it was a '65 model.
Later (maybe even ten years later) a distinction was made, mostly by 'collectors' of a cut off about when the 260 was dropped, to call them 64 1/2. From some I've heard that cut off is now later, I suspect to create more 'early' cars.

My brother in law stores cars on his lot that are waiting to go into Canada and one of the drivers said they brought a bunch TEST Mustangs for Ford into Canada not sure on the location (I think Alberta) but I guess they blew up four of the cars testing them and he said the motor was Aluminum. Thats basically all I know but he also said they were around 400 hp.

Yes, sorry if I came off kind of blunt there, but would some random tester tell the guy what the details were...I mean...if Ford hasn't released information they probably don't want their testers releasing stuff like that...Furthermore, someone on another forum mentioned a 5.7 being the next motor...I know he has to be wrong from everything said, but if the 5.0 DI isnt coming out 2011, would it potentially be possible?

It was originally a 5.8L Boss motor not 5.7 (i've seen that number quoted by error elsewhere as well)

The 5.8 was shelved and only the 6.2L remains (it does however have the ability to got that low, or high as 7L if I'm not mistaken) This is all from online info though.

The 5.0 is derived from the 4.6 mod motor and addresses its shortcomings apparently

I was just a kid at the time, but I remember the first Mustangs being advertised as '65s. I'm also thinking the idea to use the term '64-1/2 to distinguish early from late '65 Mustangs came later and was possibly based on the fact that Ford DID advertise some late '63 model introductions as '63-1/2s the year before (the Galaxie 2-door fastback for one) .

It seems that six speed transmissions will be backing Mustang engines by the 2011MY. Automotive News Europe is reporting that Ford is seeking a buyer for their transmission facility in Bordeaux, France which currently manufactures five-speed automatic transmissions for rwd Ford vehicles including the Mustang. Production of this unit is scheduled to end in April 2010 giving way to six speed units likely manufactured in the U.S..

The above dates indicate the switch will occur during the 2011MY, and fall neatly into place with other info already in hand, including rumors that the Mustang will switch to a 5.0L DOHC V8 for the 2011 model year....engine and transmission upgrades being changes which could well correspond for reasons which are obvious. The likelihood that a switch to a 6 speed auto will be accompanied by a corresponding change to a 6-speed manual seems good since a 6-speed auto would threaten to outperform the existing 5-speed manual, an eventuality Ford would likely want to avoid.
