Yeah I don't like that 2009 rendering either, but there are alot of cars that are much uglier.

The sight isn't coming up for me but I just got the new Road and Track. It has a different version on the cover on the cover, with that picture inside. The 09 is horrible, just flat out ugly. The 12 might have some promise but it has a ways to go too.

 

The one on the cover of the mag looks pretty good. The Shelby & GTR front end influence with a far better looking hood.

Could be a new facia for 2008 - 2008 ( Bullitt? ).
Definately not the next generation 2010 Mustang.

Translation: its a chop based on "best guess" and "insider info".

 

Well, it's a photo chop thats for sure. Either way I will wait for Ford to make an official comment (which won't be until mid to end of 08). We all know that Ford will not make the next Stang ugly, not after all the way the 05 redesign has been recieved. I actually don't mind it all that much but it's just a render and nothing more, we need to relax before starting the "man the new Mustang is ugly" posts, because this picture is not it. What is interesting is the talk in the article of the base engine being anywhere from 260 to 280, that is a big jump from what we are use to for the V6's. That by assumption would lead me to believe the V8 could be in the High 300's to low 400HP mark, makes sense if thats when the Challenger and Camaro come out. what is scary/ugly is the mention of a hatch back, no offense ment here, but in my opinion hatch backs are ugly, and have no place in modern Stang design. Well either way if they do go for a "clean up" rather then a redesign in 09 I am on board as my current stang will be paid off and I will be looking for another.

From what I've read/heard, the orginal design of the 09 Mustang was just to be a new front facia and that was it. When Mark Field came in, he went **** no to this and told the team to start over again with more changes. I think that is why the rumors of the delay in the restyle came about. He did the same to the new 08 F-150, which was also a victim of just refresh and stopped development of it for 2 months so the styling could be totally redone and the whole project was pulled ahead a year to launch early.

Yeah, just a new front fascia for 09/10 (refresh) I don't think would be good enough to combat the onslaught of competition regardless of engines being offered.

Putting aside the fact that it is obviously a chop, I like the evolution. For me, I'd buy a '09 (or '10) Mustang that looked like the R&T chop..
