[attachmentid=31783]Well I picked mine up yesterday. Great 112 mile ride home... I ordered it off seeing the 04 show car... and I cant say if the color is the same, as that car was under bright show lights... I dont have any like that in the garage. But I will agree with those that say the car does change colors in different light. At dusk the purple hue comes out... but I think purple may not be the proper color to use. Not Barney purple... It's just different, which is what I like about it. The only true way is to have the car for a full day, so you can see it in different light throughout the day. Here's a picture of mine.

the wife and the kids were in the car today when we passed a (quote) Pink mustang on the lot! The daughters couldnt beleive that ford made a pink car!! I set them straight by telling them it was lavender not pink. The color is nice if you are in to pastels, but i would not own one. To girlish.

...aaaaand...third base...

It's difficult to comment on the "pink" statement without knowing time of day. Early morning sunrise, I could definitely see pink being reflected.

However every picture I've seen so far of Tungsten the most I've seen is a purple shift. Will go view some in person this weekend.

This I can say for sure: My Tungsten grey may have different hues depending on the type of light its reflecting, but never does it look brown! Rest assured.

It's not going to look brown like MG does sometimes. But it does have what I would say is tiny amounts of blue&red in it, so in certain lighting / time of day - it can have a "lavender" (for lack of a better word) look to it. I really can't figure out what I would call it - it's not purple, pink or lavender. I know what to call it - Tungsten Grey Clearcoat Metallic!! I'm so smart. Put the word out everybody - we'll call this color Tungsten Grey Clearcoat Metallic.
I like the fact that it's not always going to look exactly the same 24 hours a day.
And if you want to call my car pink - go ahead but you'll have to call it smoke color after that, as that's all you'll see as I leave.

Oh wait - I mean yeah it's pink - dont buy this color. That way I'll be one of the few who have it...

Thanks to all who alerted me to the TUNGSTEN issue. Because of you, I went to a dealer and actually saw the color on a Mustang in person. A-W-F-U-L !!! Ford would do better to call it LAVENDER Grey. It is NOWHERE near the color of the showcar. It is not pink, it is not purple. It also is NOT grey. It is Lavender and it will not be my color. I am calling my deal this afternoon and switching. Thanks again to everyone who gave me the heads up. I would have been devastated to have had my car arrive in this color ! The most accurate pics I have seen on here compared to what I saw at the dealer today are "linked" below. Anyone who can not see Lavender in this car is colorblind.

I just got back from my dealer.

Let me repeat the statement above:

TUNGSTEN IS LAVENDER

I was thinking "hey, tint of purple might be cool looking, a little plum crazy on my stang". Nope. It's not a "hint of purple" It's lavender.

My dealer, who is absolutely great (assuming he pulls this off) is letting me change the color and not lose my scheduling. I'm either moving to Satin Silver (which despite the girlish name is a pure, if lighter, grey) or Legend Lime.

I saw every color car for both 05 and 06 except the dark blues. Compared at different angles - the MG shifts from gray to brown to almost gold, the WVB changes from the difference to looking through shallow water to looking into the deeps (in fact they had two WVB that were distinctly different colors), the other colors shift a little too, but seem to match what the web pics show.

But I'm off tungsten - gotta change my avatar now - it's not the pure grey of the show car.

Edit: best way to tell - compare the color of the bullitts (a pure grey) to the color of the body in any pics. The pics in the previous post are a good example.

A few points to consider for everyone freakin out about "purple" tungsten.

1.) Some digital picts are misleading due to color aberrations of the camera. Here is a link, which outlines the the most well-known light aberration called "purple fringe" of digi picts. http://www.botzilla.com/photo/g1chroma.html

2.) I have had my Tungsten Grey coupe for ~10 days now, so I've had a chance to observe it in all kinds of light, as I have posted previously. IN full sun, it is a lustrous silver/grey, showing the bright metal flect in the paint. It shows no purple in these conditions. In some types of darker light, it is grey with a purple/red/blue-ish hue. Much of the color it gives off depends on the incident light. Again, this has been noted by many new tungsten owners.

3.) Most metallic paints have this quality mentioned in #2. If you don't like metallic paints, stay with a non-metalic color that won't change it's appearence. For instance, screaming yellow always looks yellow.

I just wanted to clarify some issues that may mislead some people, in either direction.

Again, I don't see a big difference bewteen mine and the show car. I'm sure most of you didn't see the show car away from the bright lights of the display. I wonder what it would have looked like in my driveway at dusk.

The pictures in the link I posted is in no way incorrect. It shows the color exactly as I saw it today, and I did not take these pictures. They were taken by another member on this site in an obvious FULL sunlight situation. I saw it on a bit of an overcast situation and it is lavender in that situation too. . no getting around it. The fact that so many people are "freaking out about the 'purple' tungsten" should prove to give even further credence to the fact that there is a tint to the color that alot of people do not find to be grey or silver. I do not see purple. I see Lavender or Lilac. . how ever you want to call it. For me it is a HUGE disappointment. To each his own. If you like a lavender car, go for it. I am glad I saw the color in person. It is NOTHING like I expected and it looks NOTHING like the color sheet that I saw in the dealership. I have had MANY Metallic grey cars in the past. None of them changed colors in different lighting conditions. Ford seems intent on throwing different hues in every metallic paint it offers. Sonic looked purple, Redfire looks raspberry, Lime looks gold-green, Mineral grey looked like river MUD. This did not have to be the case. It HAD to be a conscious decision. I just prefer PURE colors and pure colors ARE possible in metallic paint.

But we're not talking about digital pics, we're talking from personal experience.

Because someone doesn't care for tungsten does not mean they don't care for metallics. All metallics shift and reflect, that's the nature of metallic paint. This one happens to shift to lavender way too easily.

Some people have better color vision than others. I know people who are colorblind and couldn't tell WVB from LL. It is also well established that women in general have better vision than men (if you've ever had to deal with waiting for a woman picking between two seemingly identically colored pieces of clothing, you'll understand this). I'd say get a group of people, including a woman - seriously - to go look at the color before you buy.

Finally, and this is no slam on any TG owner, but someone who already owns the color may not be the most objective source.

I was dead set on this color. Really. But anyone who has this ordered sight unseen has to go look at it ASAP.

06GT4me,

Sweet ride. I think it is pretty much the same one that is being built for me next week! Heck I might even see you out driving around as I live about 5 miles from RSM.

TG owners may be biased toward whether they like the color or not, but they are also the best ones to explain the color of the car. All I'm saying is that it is misleading to call the paint PURPLE. Actually, it would be really cool if it were purple. My favorite color on a classic 60's muscle car is Black Cherry (essentially dark, deep purple). I had that color on my 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente 2dr hardtop with 289 V8. It was my daily driver for several years.

I'm not gonna worry about this topic anymore.I actually like metallics that have slight color changes. Also liked mineral grey.I really like champagne color metallics that i've seen too.Maybe its my feminine side coming out! I think if the tungsten were just grey it would be bland and boring. So to all of you Tungsten grey owners,THIS BUD'S FOR YOU!!
This is completely off topic but, Diamond Blue or anyone else ,how do you quote different parts of posts.?I can't figure it out to save my life. Thanks

Plum crazy purple is my favorite car color. Obviously it only works on certain cars. I have nothing against the color.

You'd be best to explain the car, but I don't feel you're explaining it accurately. As an owner, I don't think you can objectively defend when someone calls your baby ugly.

Yes, it might be cool if Tungsten were purple. But it isn't. We're calling it Lavender or Lilac, which is what it is. A very low saturation lavender.

I've seen talk comparing it to the BMW dark gray, or the Mazda gray, or even the Mitsubishi gray. It's nothing like any of them. Park it next to a silver or an MG and the lavender shows through even more. It is not the pure gray of the Titanium show car. When someone puts satin silver stripes on one I think this will show up even clearer.

It's very easy actually. When you first start your reply you'll see around the quoted text something like:

Code:
[quote=Boltzman,August 26, 2005, 8:20 PM]
some text
[/quote]
What you want to do is put those around whatever parts of text you want to quote and respond to separately. So in the post above I did:

Code:
[quote=Boltzman,August 26, 2005, 8:20 PM]
This is completely off topic but,[/quote] :offtopic:[quote]Diamond Blue or anyone else ,[/quote][quote]how do you quote different parts of posts.?[/quote]:wtf:[quote]I can't figure it out to save my life.[/quote]:what:[quote]Thanks[/quote] :-D
You can either use the QUOTE button up top in the reply and have it do it, or type it in by hand.
