Kinda has an "S2000" look to it from that stance and view. Pretty nice thought.

An improvement, albeit a rather within-the-box one. But it does give the front, at least, a bit more sharpness and definition from the oh-so-bland current iteration. Might have hoped for something a bit more extensive along the lines of the Gen 1 to Gen 1.5 (2?) redo, but at least its a step in the right direction.

Now if Mazda really wanted to do something worthwhile, they'd stick a version of the MS3's motor in there and really start giving Cayman's, Z4s and assorted other $40K+ sportscars are real headache for about 3/5ths the price or less. Sadly, Mazda is overly conservative and, well, spineless when it comes to the Miata.

The redesign doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. I think I might still prefer the 2006-08 NC Miatas, but I'll have to see more of the new ones in different colors to be sure. I drove one last year at an autocross and have sat in them various times at auto shows and dealerships, and really like the NC Miatas. One of these is on the short list for my next car purchase, it will probably be used 2006-07, but I'd consider a new one if I can get a good enough deal. A little more power would be nice, but it has a lot more power already than my '90 Miata, and an exhaust and header can really wake these cars up.

One of the best rides anywhere, most affordable 'vert hardtop anywhere, and oh yeah the car that created its segment. Sorry, not seeing the "spineless." Sure, I don't personally agree on skipping the MS version if the NC, but considering how well they do without it I can see the argument for using the money elsewhere. Especially if NOT doing the MS leads to a new, better RX as is rumored.

My thoughts exactly.

Maybe spineless is too strong, maybe not, but Mazda does seem to be content in staying within the comfortable niche carved out by the well earned and deserved success of the Miata. But I think an MS version with the MS3's motor and suitably tuned running gear would significantly expand the Miata's market beyond its comfy niche, from just an exceedingly "nice" car to one that has a bit of attitude and teeth too.

Or, perhaps, as you suggest, a revived RX-7 model with a screaming DI 1.8L pony-keg of power, vert included, to sit above the Miata...

Miatas always have looked pretty boring to me. People have told me they are fun to tool around in, but I've yet to do it.

I'd definitely recommend trying to get a test drive in one. They just don't appeal to some people, but I love them.

Looks better than the old version. Seems to have some BMW lines. Definitely like the grille better.

^You're right. I didn't like the current version much. The restyling is well done. But I still would prefer an S2k.

The S2K is very nice looks and well set up, but I dislike the motorcycle-style insane-RPM engine. I've driven rotaries which don't have to be spun up that far to perform. I also dislike how Honda's treated it over the years.
