Here's a story a little birdie told me.

Do you wonder why Ford has been so slow to offer HID headlamps on most of its vehicles? Reason, the Finance committee (that controls everything that goes into production) didn't see a reason to spend money on HID.

However, they discovered that on the vehicles they did have HID available as an option (Lincolns) Ford makes a good profit on the HID option. So now the finance people want HID available on everything.

Oh snap! You mean offering desirable features makes it easier to sell a car without incentives? Who'd have thunk it!

Funny, isn't it, that the truth of how finance & marketing run this company is all starting to leak out now?

Shine the light on that nest of rats and eventually they'll have nowhere left to hide.

It shows how out of touch with the market Ford's finance committee is.
They couldn't belive that not only does offering HID make FoMoCo vehicles easier to sell, but cusomers are willing to pay extra for HID.

Remember when the updated F-150 came out. Highly optioned F-150s were hard to find, but dealers had trouble selling all the stripper F-150s they got. Again finance & marketing planned to build too many stripper F-150s because they didn't think many customers would buy the nicer F-150s.

Jump to 2005 and the same thing happened with the new S-197 Mustang. Not enough GTs and IUPs were built again because of finance & marketing. The finance & marketing idiots purposely cut the # of Mustang Fleet Rental sales, but then forgot to adjust the V6 to GT build mix to reflect what non-fleet Mustang sales had been buying for years.

And fast forward to 2007, there are already rebates on stripper Edges because once again they under estimated demand for SEL & SEL+ Edges and built too many SEs.

It's like the gang who couldn't shoot straight.

It seems that long-term memory isn't a prerequisite for working in Ford finance.

Y'all remember what happened to the dinosaurs, right?

More and more, the Oriental imports are looking like the furry little mammals of the new epoch.
