COYOTE BREAKS COVER IN F150!!!

http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/09...ford-f150.html

The single BEST piece of information lies in the last paragraph:

Of course, our sources tell us that Ford is already working on a version of the Coyote V-8 that will separate itself from the rest of the future V-8 engine lineup. In cartoons, the Coyote is only beat by a Road Runner. Look for a twin-turbo 5.0-liter “Road Runner” V-8 with well over 500-horsepower to debut first in the Mustang GT500 in 2012 and possibly, in F-150 Harley-Davidson edition pickups.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy about the fact that I did predict the coming versions of the GT500 would be powered by basically an Ecoboost Coyote. Seems according to this info to be exactly that.

Doesn't surprise me much at all. While the SC 5.4 can obviously grind out prodigious amounts of power, it's also big heavy lump that swills gas like its 2005 all over again -- hardly the motor of the future.

The efficient Ecoboost approach is definitely the direction for the future and expect to find it on most every Ford performance motor regardless of cylinder count. Given how swiftly the 3.7TT pushes the pudgy SHO down the ways, imagine what a truly performance tuned V8 version with an extra pint of two of displacement to work with will do to a car (NextStang) that will presumably weigh in closer to 3,600lbs or less given that Ford's serious about taking its cars to the fat farm next round.

500+ hp and a torque curve that can be drawn with a carpenter's level will banish the 5.4SC to the mists of time along with triple expansion steam engines and other industrial age curios. The added benefit will not be the need to be tailed by a fuel tanker and knowing that it will not be 4 degrees warmer under a CO2 infused exhaust plume out back.

Now if Ford will fit a DCT to reduce shift times from .5 to about .005 seconds and an IRS that won't get bucked off any curve rougher than 100 grit sandpaper.
