I'm just curious what's the difference between the T5/T-45 and Tremec 3650?

Seeing as how the Tremec 3650 was used in the latter years of the SN95, what made it "superior" or better than the T5/T-45 model?

I guess a side question would be, is there a difference between a T5 and T-45?

Don't know why these questions popped in my head, but now they are making me curious.

The 3650 is stronger, it has a higher torque capacity rating, although still not as strong as a built transmission made for high hp.

There is a difference in the t-5 and t-45. One of the main things, the t-5 tranny can be removed from the bellhousing while the bellhousing is still bolted the car. It was what 5.0 based cars used.

The t-45 acctually is a slightly stronger version of hte t-5, but you could not remove the tranny from the bellhousing while in teh car, you had to remove the tranny/bellhousing as one part, then the bellhousing seperates with bolts on the inside of it. a PITA. It was put in to action in the 1996-2000 4.6L years, and in 01 they swapped to the 3650. I think when the t-45 first came out, it was made by borg-warner, and then tremec took it over in '99, but I could be mistaken by that.

3650's also have an intergal bell housing, its the face plate for the tranmission, I also believe that the TR3650 had a problem with 2nd gear synchros and there might be a TSB (IIRC)
