Noise on start up

My 01, has a noise on start up that is similar to lifter's leak down . Sound like some of the lifter's need to pump up. the engine does this for 10-25 seconds, every time on start up . If the car has been sitting for 2 hours or more. But mod motors don't have lifter's.I use 5 quarts of 5w-20w oil, Motorcraft oil filter. this engine has about 89k on it. What can my problem be? all help appreciated.

I know this is more common in the 3 valves but did you check the timing chains? I know in the trucks when they start to go bad they slap around making a noise. Also I know in the 5.4 trucks the oil pump ( I think) makes a rattling noise on starts. You can check the chains by pulling the valve cover and looking down there with a light and inspect the the plastic shoes ( forgot the actual name.) and see how much wear is in there. I would check the passenger side because that was the worst side on mine.

Good luck

Hi, the oil is change every 3k. and the noise started about 6k miles ago. I will pulled the valve cover to check the timing chain. this engine was installed about 18 months ago. and we check the timing chains and installed a new oil pump, before installing the engine. with the low mileage on this engine would not expect it to be timing chains. my 00,F-150 has 296k ,96 t-bird 265k both original engine's. still running strong.
