Mach 460 Sound System...
If I wanted to get a new cd player/radio thingy, would I need to rewire the entire system or just rewire the input part of it. If all it took was just making 2 inputs into 1, then I could do that, but the rewireing part would be more hastle then it'd be worth...
Well I dont have the Mach 460 sound system, so I don’t really think I can help, but my car came with the dual head units (one radio/tape deck and one cd player) that I replaced recently. I ordered from crutchfield and got the wiring harness necessary to convert to the single stereo unit free with the order. Im not sure if this is what you are referring to, but I figured id give it a shot, because no one seems to be sure either.
I have changed a few stereos out of cars before and it wasnt too hard. Just make sure you label the wiring as you dissasemble left front, left rear, etc. If I remember correctly you should have 1 constant live, 1 switch live (ignition), 4 sets of 2core speaker/amp, amp feeds, 1 return and an antenna core. you may also have rca outputs as well but I'm not sure. I also have the 460 but not looked behind it yet. Would like to run seperate amps and subs in the trunk, maybe rear seat delete but not sure yet. If you have taken the 460 out can you post picture of rear so I can see if there is seperate amp outputs.
The install itself should be really easy as long as you know which wires to connect together. Simple wire clamps (cant remember the name of them) which you put the wires into and close with pliers. New stereo should come with new plug and instructions/color codes. The only difficulty you may run into is that the length on the wires behind the console are sometimes stupidly short. Antenna plug/jack may also need to be cut back or converted as sometimes the plug on these differs from the one on the stereo.
Hope this helps.
