HELP - Odometer Repaired/ Spinning Too Fast

Hey guys, I finished repairing my odometer on my 1998 Mustang GT just like Chrisfix did
I took it on it's first run to work, 4.2 miles away. However, when I got home, it showed 10 miles. So I drove 8.4 miles, but it's showing 10 miles? The only thing I can think of is I changed the three layered gear, but not the worm gear. What did I do wrong and how can I fix that? Everything is stock besides a new radio and odometer gear.

If you didn't replace the worm gear, it's likely you've changed the gear ratio. Gears like this come as a set. It's very possible they changed the Teeth Per Inch on the regular gear to reduce stress, and adjusted the angle of the worm gear to compensate. The other end of the toothed gear they wouldn't have changed.

That's my theory. Replace the worm gear to match the set, I bet it solves itself.

Oh, and welcome aboard!
