My sister came to me saying her 01 has a fuel leak she says she could see a wet spot on the neck by a tube. So I go look under the car and while it wasn't wet at the time the spot she pointed at is the fuel filler neck where it goes in the tank. Did some checking and it seems to me there is a rubber grommet the neck goes thru that may have been damaged as the neck can wiggle in the hole in the tank. Is it correct the neck goes thru a rubber grommet at this point to seal the tank ?? Visually it still appears as my 01 does but I wanna believe the inner portion was torn when an idiot decided to hit the car at the fuel door which shoved the neck inward a bit possible even pushing part of the grommet into the tank. can this grommet be purchased and how much do ya think it'd run ??

Guess I'llfigure out how to replace the rubber myself since it seems a question about a fuel tank brings out children in the forum

Yes, it's called a filler neck grommet and their like $10 at Autozone

 

You have to drop the tank and make sure to remove the filler neck bolts inside the fuel door that way the filler neck moves freely and you don't break it
