darn belts squeak when moist.

Whenever it rains or there is dew in the morning my belts squeek really bad and its really annoying. Anyone know how to make them stop squeeking?

Is your AC running? Our RX 300 has been doing this because the AC Compressor is sticking and the belt is forced to slide over the pulley.

Other than that, have you looked at your belt? Is it getting old or worn out? Maybe you should replace it before it does what your GTP did to it's belt.

Yeah i checked the belt and it was fine..i think the reason the GTPs broke is because radiator fluid was leaking from the water pump on it all the time.

No i rarely use my A/C so i don't think thats it. But it only happens when it rains or when its kinda wet out. The belt looks aligned just fine and the belt is tight and looks fine. But i can't stnad the weeeeeeeee weeeeeEEEEEEeeeeeeeEEEEEeeeee WeeeeeeeeeEEeeeeeeeeeeee.

Could be a pulley. Also, if the belts are over four years old it might be time to replace them.

My guess is that they are the original belts so it would probably be worth while to change the belt and see if it fixes the problem. Then you could at least rule that out if it doesn't fix it.

Get a Goodyear Gatorback, or Dayco PolyCog -- Advance/PartsAmerica can ussually get the PolyCogs in the same day if they don't have it in stock...

Re: WD-40 or PB, you should never use any dressing on an automotive belt (or really on any V-belt), all it does it mask the symptoms of other problems (also, petroleum based things are the worst you could use, they will degrade the rubber and only quiet the belt because now you've lubicated the slipping).

Belts are noisy because they are misaligned, improperly tensioned, or worn and/or hardened from age--fix the problem and you won't need to squirt crap on it every now and then...

Thanks everyone.. guess always start with the basics.

Don't you just love cheap, simple solutions? BTW, you should use the a/c periodically so the compressor doesn't go to crap and to monitor it to make sure it's in working order for when you really need to use it.

Cool, glad you got it quieted down!

+1 on the AC, it needs to be exercised once in a while or it will develop problems...

I think for Chris he's more likely to remove the AC just to save weight than to actually use it.

Hey Chris My X just had the same thing on her 2003 Ranger she has a 3.0 litre engine, so I took it to Ford for an oil change and looky loo, they said the belt coud be replace as well the tension pully, ok so I ordered said parts put them on and still had a chirp ?? so I replaced the other free spinning pully, still chirp Then it hit me !

There is a diagram on the front plate on top of radiator, that shows on size of engine as to how the serpintine belt should be threaded ! I replaced the same way thinking it was correct , It was not so if squeek when belt off and engine spin pullys and you should be able to tell on them and view your belt for wear as well on properly. that is my 4.5 cent worth I do hope its of some use.
