Real-World EcoBoost Mustang Numbers Dead On

How close does the real-world fuel economy for the EcoBoost Mustang come to those great EPA ratings? Well, pretty darn close.

Good luck to all of you...I'll stick with my V8, 5.0 19mpg city, 24.3 hwy. I'm satisfied.

I've had my '15 GT for almost two weeks now and I am getting 24.4 mpg. It's about 70% highway/30% local roads. And I do step on it when I get the itch to! My '14 V6 got 23-24mpg mpg with similar driving style.....I couldn't be happier!

A recent Cars.com report found that during a 200 mile drive on the highway, the EcoBoost Mustang posted highway fuel economy numbers in the mid-30s mpg range while driving at 60-70 mph highway speeds. Add in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic during a busy holiday weekend, and the turbocharged four-banger averaged 27.2 mpg and 27.6 mpg during a 70-mile ride from Chicago, Illinois to Michigan City, Indiana, and back.

I found this to also be true on my trip from Atlanta to Ann Arbor and back I averaged 32.5 miles per gallon. And that included some time in construction traffic where it was stop and go. To give a reference, with my 2007 and 2010 Mustang V6's, I would have to work hard to make it to Georgetown, KY from Ann Arbor before I had to fill up. With my 2012 Focus, it was London, KY. With my 2015 Mustang Ecoboost, I made it to Williamsburg, KY and could have reach Caryville, TN with no problems. I filled up in Williamsburg just to be safe since there are not a lot of gas stations once you get into Tennessee on I-75.

My problem is I can not keep my foot out of it! I love to hear that Turbo spool up and the sound of my flowmaster exhaust. Which really improved the sound of the Ecoboost. I do not regret not getting a GT at all.

I have no regrets either, the fuel economy is just a plus to me. I only drive 8 miles to work each day, no hwy but the speed limit is 55 then drops to 50. I have been going two weeks before filling up on a 1/4 tank. And with the Bama tune, man this thing is quick!

That didn't come out right. Pardon me. Old military banter.

Here is my Trip screen from yesterday. I filled up because I was about to hit a construction backup, but based on the fill up and what was left in my tank, I could have reached 500 miles if I could have continued without the delay.
