Okay, being the cheapskate I am, I'm thinking about buying the $20-40 "do-it-yourself" recharge/reconditioning kits to get my A/C back to keeping me cool. Mine's a '98 GT, but I'm assuming the A/C units are the same on all models.

Thanks!

Never done one on a stang, but I put one of the retorfit/ recharge kits from Advance Auto on my 88 lincoln Mark VII. Very easy to install the adapters, and easy to follow instructiuons regarding filling the a/c. Just be sure not to overcharge the system. My car held the three cans of refrigerant/oil that came with the kit and is pretty cold considering the age of the car. I will probably add one more can as long as it doesnt raise the pressure too much.

Thanks Joker, good to hear. I figured, after reading some of the manufaturers notes online, this was something I could tackle, but was concerned about how well it worked.

Thanks again.

No problem man As long as there arent any leaks in your a/c system to cause it to leak out the coolant, then it does pretty well.

I get it done at my buddy's shop for $20 If it weren't for him I would do it myself on the Stang too. My father used the kit when he had his 93 Subaru. Worked great and lasted up until the day I sold it this March.

Thanks everyone! As it turns out, I did some checking on the system as suggested by Advance Auto and found that the clutch on the compressor isn't engaging. Maybe I'll have to spend some of my hard-earned money...

If you're low on freon that will cause the compressor not to kick in as well, just a thought.

The end story, if anyone cares. Seems there's something more to it than a low charge on the coolant. I checked the preasure on the system with the guage that comes with the kit and it showed a full charge. Guess I'll have to spend my hard earned money and have my mech. look at it. Darn.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Well, the important thing now is, you know definatly that it doesn't need a recharge. So you tried atleast.
