I read the write-up here at TMS on oils, and am pretty convinced that Ford has really done their homework on their oil. I also believe the hype in this case and believe they are being honest with us, because the tests are not run in house on it. They are certified by independent sources, and the Motorcraft stuff exceeds the standards set forth by these standards. On my 01 Bullitt they Recommend Motorcraft Super Premium 5-20 in the manual, and I looked it up and sure enough, it exceeds the specs and meets all standards.
I'm kinda getting to be a purists as far as original on thios Bullitt because I want it to be exactly as it was when it left the assembly line. In this case though, the Ford Motorcraft stuff really is good.
I would stick with the viscosity that is recommended though for your engine. These new engines are made to run with a certain grade and have tolerances and such for that specific oil...in the old days heavier was better if you were "rompin' on it", but not so anymore with these new engines. They tend to run on lighter oils, and get better mileage, and yes the oils thin out just a little bit when up to temp, but not like they used to and these engines are setup for that.
These are my opinions on it. I actually like what I read about the Motorcraft stuff. Thanks TMS for writing that up and doing the research.
