2001 v6 to v8
2001 v6 to v8
I have always been a Chevy man but I recently aquired a 96 gt and since then I've gotten completely addicted to mustangs. Between my dad and I we've owned 6 in the past 6 months. This past week I've bought an 01 v6 5 speed in really great shape for next to nothing. The 99-04 is my favorite body style and I have intentions of swapping out the 3.8 for a 4.6 that has been made into a 5.0 stroker. What are some things I will end up having to change/do to make this work? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Well I already had the motor and trans to swap out and I lucked out on this car and got it for 1050 bucks with 125k on it. Clean title an straight body. Had no idea what all it took to swap to a gt but its definitely more than I thought
yeah. the rear diff is weak and cant handle the power of a stock v8. the k member is different. and the suspension cant take the torque of the engine. the v6 of that year was never designed to me fast. i say make it a gas saving dd and build another car for hot rodding
It can be done. IIRC, there was at least one swap documented on this site. If you're still committed, the "best" way would be to procure a complete donor 4.6 GT and swap all the necessary components over to the V6 shell.
This Mustang also started life as a V6. Can't find the project thread. Too lazy.

I don't have a full gt parts car in this year range but I had a motor and transmission. I am in the process of beefing the motor right now. I have been talkin to many of the local mustang guys an they said that its not as difficult as it may seem. I am lookin for a computer for it and may have located a wiring harness.
I see where it can be a costly and time consuming job but what better way to go through and really learn the cars and get experience in every aspect of building it. I had planned on building one from the ground up regardless so the fact I'm replacing a lot doesn't concern me to terribly much. At least ill kno everything is new an the best available while seeing how these cars are built all around. I'm excited an have big plans for the stang
