2001 V6 rack and pinion in a 67 GT fastback

Hey guys I have a 67 fastback and the steering is the typical old school turn the wheel like crazy and non responsive steering. I also have a 2001 v6 that I bought for a parts car and I'm thinking about taking out the steering rack and pinion from that car and putting it in my 67 along with the steering column so it's easier to get in and out as well as having the tilt feature. The car is completely custom restored so tampering with things taking them away from stock is no issue. Would this work? I feel if the overall length and the OD of the rack is the same it should! Let me know what you all think.

I just saw a conversion like this yesterday in a '67 Chevy.
In that car, it took a lot of fabrication to get it all to work.
Your description sounds like yours would be easier.
Great improvement in handling, hope yours won't be so difficult.

take lots of pics and be prepared to have a need to fab things and adapt other things!
