We can get subs for the doors made!
Alright, Ben Milne of Elemental Designs is making some thin-mount subwoofers. His plan is to start with 10"ers, but he is more than willing to do any size as long as there is a definite interest. We, as new 'Stang owners, need to show this interest. They would fit in the doors, and they would sound good. Best of all, Elemental has excellent pricing structure, and I like the service I have received from all involved there. There is a thread on the ICIX audio board where you can express interest, or you can click in his sig to contact. If this sounds good to anyone, just tell them. I'll let him know of this thread, and he may actually join the forum to answer questions (he did so at ClubRSX and I think F150 online). C'mon peeps, let's get this show rolling.
Can you explain to me how this is better than my shaker 1000 in-door subs? This isn't a sarcastic question, I really have no understanding of stereo equipment and only got the 1000 because it was on the lot and had everything else I wanted. I'm pretty happy with it (not being an audiophile), but I'm always looking to be educated. Plus, if you could say that these are better than the stock subs in a number of ways, I'm sure more people would be interested.
Sorry, I forgot that I actually had already posted this. I have been working alot.
The factory speakers are essentially inefficient, bulk-purchased trash. They have little low-end, and the mid-bass range is muddy and lacking detail. Besides, you don't have enough power to truly overcome road noise and aftermarket exhaust. Step in with some good speakers. Lowend will improve, and the midbass will be snappier. Power handling will probably increase by about 5x (I expect these will be rated at 175-200 RMS, but I cannot say for sure as I don't work for ED). This will allow the use of more powerful aftermarket amplifiers to get louder.
This all sounds good, but there is a catch. It is difficult to fit speakers into the factory enclosures without modification. This is above what some either can do, or want to do. With a thin-mount speaker, all that goes out the door, and we get good sound.
