vibration/sound dampening? dynamat and others?
hi all,

is there an alternative thats also good?
has anyone done this to the trunk, doors or interior floor below the seats?
thanks guys!
im trying to make the car feel a bit more SOLID from a interior sound perspective...

look at this link http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/
Yep I dynamated the doors - got two of the door kits off ebay last winter for a fraction of the retail cost. The price was so good in fact, and it worked so well, that I think i may buy more, as I've since upgraded the door woofers (runnin on RF Punch S1's). http://search.ebay.com/search/search...trypage=search
Im pretty sure thats the guy, and im pretty sure the door kits are double the price at most brick and mortar stores. . .

Edead is fantastic if you get the SE version, RAAMmat is nice, Cascade, and the end all of available dampening is Second Skin. It seems expensive until you actually start comparing. VERY good stuff.
That said, I used eDead v1se2 and the v3 liquid in my Mustang, and will likely use it again in my Trac.

Funny you should mention that. I've had a brand new door kit collecting dust for years so I broke it out yesterday to help stop the rattles of my newly installed Phoenix Gold Xenon 10's in my trunk. (very versatile subs btw, got a nice deal on them last year on closeout at 2 for 1 pricing on Ebay)
The kit came with 4 pretty long sheets so I'm thinking I will use it for my trunk lid instead and a few other strategic locations in the trunk as the rattles are already driving me crazy. I'm hoping it will be enough.
I know Mr. Infinity over there had 3 football fields of sound deadening in his Mustang. Any ideas about key areas in the trunk I should cover first or should I plan on just having the entire trunk dynamatted?

Areas I focus upon first would be under the rear seat, and the front firewall. The door panels are very thin and lossy also. The trunk realy isn't too bad. If you can, get some sponges stuffed between the metal on the rear deck, and the carpeted panel covering it. It is lightweight, and it will prevent a LOT of rattling associated with your subwoofers.
Melted & oozed, that's insane. I would have raised hell if that happened to me. My last mustang had second skin deamplifier and that worked well in the trunk. I'm going to test out the sponge method this week and we'll see if I need any dynamat after that. thanks 4 the tips.
I would reccommend trying to lay it on yourself. Most places will rape you over the cost of install cause "its such a PITA" except that it really isnt. The carpet (in the front anyway) is easily pulled up, the door panels are a synch (youll need a nice amount for them, very hollow), the trunk i couldnt tell you, but it seems to be an easy job(the carpet along the sides comes out easily). If you do try it and need any assistance, feel free to get at me
On Infinity's recommendation, I have used eDead v1se2. It got a bad rap in the sounddeadener showdown link. I haven't tried any other brands, yet. I have Second Skin's speaker kit lying around waiting to be installed.
I used eDead on the door panels (not the door - that's next). It does the job and you can buy it by the square foot on their online site for almost half or maybe even less than most other brands. They have some thicker stuff now that I might buy for the tranny tunnel someday. To my knowledge they are also one of the few places that has an acoustical foam with the adhesive already on it. I bought one square foot of it when I bought the eDead and have used it in all kinds of places to stop squeeks and rattles.

PS - I just used an old 3/8" foam carpet pad cut to size underneath the factory carpet in the trunk. I think I might add one more layer. Works pretty good and was a quick install. It was going in the trash anyway.
Oh, and just for the record, the eDead v1 got the bomb at the showdown, not the se2, so don't let that hold you back. Also, I speak with Rudeboy on a regular basis, and he has a personal gripe with the owner of ED. Not that it changes the fact that original edead was trash, but he will let his personal feelings come out in his findings.
Depends on your budget. If money is no object, deaden every piece of bare metal: doors, trunk, floor pan, firewall, roof. If you're on a budget then do the above in the order as mentioned as your budget permits. I'm on to the trunk next.
If you're going to do the whole car at once, you should look into a spray on application. A whole car of full of foil backed deadener may attract aliens...or deter them, I can't remember which.
