Steering wheel emblem HELP!, How do you remove it?
#21
Well in my defense...
This was one of the first Saleens I had seen in the new body.
Landers Ford of Memphis (a Saleen dealer) was one of the first in the Mid South to get them.
Oh and the outline of the pony underneath was visible through the sticker.
I remember thinking "50k for a sticker"?

Thanks Walter. Just by looking at the emblem, I KNEW removing it was a simple thing. I'm currently working on the best (only?) way to fab a custom made cap.....

How would you attach/reattach an emblem? Can you get behind the horn piece to fold the tabs back in? Or will it just be glued (meaning, would I be wearing the mustang emblem on my forehead if the bag deploys?)

I believe the hard plastic "base", which is exposed when pulling off the tin emblem, remains on one half of the airbag cover when it blows open. If this is true, it doesn't matter how a tin emblem, or whatever it's made of, is attached to it because it will stay stuck to the center "base".
The only way to confirm this is to examine a deployed airbag. I've actually seen one pic of a blown airbag and it was somewhat difficult to see but it appeared that the center base where the tin emblem is, was held in place to the left half of the bag's outer covering.
Anyone seen a blown airbag?

Willie,
I have not seen a deployed airbag but am interested in what you come up with.
I got my Mustang back from the garage after rearranging the new bumper you helped me with. Geoff did a great job -- the only exception is several "dimples" in the clearcoat on the hood. They are liveable but noticeable. You cannot even tell the bumper ever was damaged so for $400 this was a good deal.

Saw this on Ebay. Selling a Saleen emblem that is meant to go on top of the existing horse emblem.

Rene,
FRPP has a center wheel cap with only the Cobra. I believe its diameter is 2.5-inches. The steering wheel center depression is ~2.4-inches in diameter if you remove the rubber "strips". This is easy to do with a single-edged razor blade. I had the same idea as you and was thinking of buying one center cap, removing enough material around the circumference to fit it onto the airbag.....

Center Emblem
Hi, when I got my 05 almost 3 years ago, I went to Scott Drake Enterprises and bought the Gold 67 Shelby wheel center cap decals (the thin metal ones) from the Kelsey Hayes wheels I believe. I bought 5 of these. 4 fit perfectly on the 5 spoke factory wheel center caps. the other went right over the gt emblem on my steering wheel with a thin piece of 2 faced tape. looks perfect. there are 2 different sized wheel centers from 67. so, be sure you measure and get the right sizes. hope this helps someone

Scott Drake makes a lot of nice products. I have their shifter trim and fuse box cover.
By the way, ordered my panhard bar and camber bolts tonight for the coming install!
