Steering wheel emblem HELP!, How do you remove it?
06 Mustang GT How do you remove the center Emblem on the steering wheel/ I want to replace it with my own design. Any ideas?

Ok, this is what I did. I got a GT 350 emblem on it. Go and get some lexan from a model shop. use your kids compass (the college one with the point). measure the circle and use the point end to begin to scratch out a circle. keep going over it and over it, till it is cut out. Smooth the edges with an emory board (wife). I then suggest using black 3m silicone sealant (wal mart auto/house section). Put it over the center, put your cut out circle and press it down. clean off the excess (use enought to allow you to have excess push out the sides). Let it cure and trim what you need to with a razor blade.
I think I have a pic on my got stang web site.

That might not be a very good idea.
If you look at the emblem closely in the sun light, you can see it is designed to break away in the middle.
IF and i mean IF you do add a cover then i would recomend that you use the smallest amount of glue that you can get away with, and only on the edges to make it is easy for the air bag to work. On air bag activation that add on emblem my just turn into a ninja star......my 2 cents

i remember that someone showed a pic of the emblem when the airbag went off and it did not break down the middle, the horn broke down the middle but the right side of it still held on to the whole emblem, it is just that the surface is curved so the emblem takes the shape

I do not think that the emblem is part of the airbag, rather just part of the steering wheel. You can still remove the steeting wheel from the airbag I believe and you may be able to pop it off from the inside.

I know being a quality coordinator for the F 150 Series in Kansas City for 12.5 years these are not made to be modified. The ovals on the trucks are actually clipped into thru the airbag material. As for covering it up with a sticker like most of the ones we all see on ebay, this would be the only thing I would want in my face upon deployment versus a badge or emblem that is not designed for the safety of our vehicle.

The emblem is part of the air bag, not the steering wheel, and can not be removed. I know this for a fact as I have replaced the GT steering wheel and air bag with the GT 500 steering wheel and air bag.

I am willing to be they use an overlay like all the gel domed badges you can buy online and on ebay. They simply have a vendor who is licensed to use their logo and make these for Saleen.

The center cap emblem is made of nothing but thin tin metal. It can be pryed off with a couple of small screwdrivers. It's held in place with six thin tabs, nothing more. It took me about two minutes to remove it. Here are some pics.

I have a Sallen one in my hand and its metal, there is also another piece that goes on top of the pomy to make it flat and a good mounting surface. Ill try and get a picture for you but it isnt flat and isnt a sticker, its very thin metal and there is an outer rim. This may be new but tis the way they are now
