I have the Jls but the ones with out the crosssovers and they sound very good. They fit perfect.

I know sound is subjective, but would you describe the high-end as "smooth", or more "bright"? And do you find them to have a lot of presence? I'm looking for speakers that don't sound "metallic" or "clangy".

(Words are inadequate when describing sound, aren't they?)

They are very smooth. Its hard to really say how good they can be with just hu power going to them. They are rated at 50 watts continous so a good amp would only make them sound better. I do know that a Jl dealer by me prefers these over the other speakers. He says the crossovers go bad very easy, and these sound just as good.

The JL coax's sound VERY nice. It sounds like you may want to audition speakers that use soft dome tweeters. Hard domes (generally) tend to be harsher and brighter, but louder. Just a rule of thumb. So, compare like a Focal to an MB Quart, and I'll bet you like the Focal better. Look into the CDT's (good price on e-bay, authorized) or even some of the Cadence http://www.cadencestore.com/ProductC...idCategory=126
through their outlet store. They're loud without being harsh, and CHEAP!!!
