Chris - sorry to have taken so long to respond - no you do not have to remove the headliner to add the footwell lights to the existing interior lighting system. Just remove the passenger side "A" pillar trim piece and you will see the harness coming up the A pillar. (see my detailed instructions above for wire colors, etc.) It really is fairly straightforward. Good luck!!
No problem! I discovered that I didn't have to remove the headliner when I installed the auto-dimming mirror. Looks like you and I have done many of the same mods. My next mods will be the Intake Cover followed by the JLT CAI and SCT tune.

I just said the other day I wish the console compartment had a light --- its hard to see what CDs are in there, would be much better then the 2 lights overhead.....

Has anyone ever installed any lights there? How hard could it be?

ALL MUSTANGS had both a glove box light and an underhood light in '94 thru '95 or '96. Ford started cutting corners in '97 (or '96) and eliminated these lights along locking lug nuts, tire-iron pouch, cargo net, functional rear side scoops and many other features that they figured no one would notice.

I added a '94 Glove Box Light to both my '98 & '04 ... the light is just part of the upper catch and directly interchanges with the non-lighted '97-04 catch. I'm sure Ford is no longer using this same catch on the current Mustang, but I'll bet it is common with SOMETHING else from Ford or Mazda. Possibly they already have an interchangeable catch that is lighted. Something worth looking into anyway.

Ford has eliminated even more stiuff on the 2005. Oh there are all the big improvements and added features that they have incorporated but where did these basic features go ...

Dead Pedal
Glove Box Trunk Release (I use this daily)
Padded Dash
Padded Upper Door Trim
Std. Full Instrumentation
Center Overhead Dome Light w/dual map lights (new combo map lights/dome light between visors just does not cut it)
1 switch instead of 2 for rear power windows on Conv. (no big deal, but I noticed it !!)
There is more, I just can't think of any now.

Don't get me wrong, I rented one for two days and really did like all the improvements. I will have one in a couple of years after I put a few more miles on my '04. But after 3 SN-95's and almost 250,000 miles, I'll be one of the first one's to notice all that is MISSING from the new model !!

Sorry this turned into a long rant ... the bold print should have been my whole post !!

Doug

Putting a light inside the console wouldn't be too difficult, a simple light with clear plastic housing and pin switch would do the trick nicely. The pin switch would turn the light on when you open the lid. Grab power from the power outlet inside the bin and bingo.

Anyone know where the wires are under the dash, and what color? Seems once you find the right wires under the dash for that activates the courtesy lights, install would be a breeze.
