Removing Cluster & center

Im removing the dash cluster and the center piece with teh radio and buttons. Is there a place I could find directions for this before I go and snap some clips? Im sure its not overly difficult. I would just like to know where the clips are. I would buy a manula but they donnot have them at my dealer.

It's straight forward.. i'd describe it but the attached PDFs should do
1st remove the console floor, then the instrument panel center finish, then the head unit

Do you have the one for the instrument cluster as well. That would help as that is coming out at the same time. (Speedo/Tach etc)

Here's a write-up TacoBill did which has pics showing how to remove the center console, etc.

Sorry I don't have a real write up or pics, but removing the gauge cluster is really pretty simple. The whole trim piece (AC vent, speedo and tach tunnels, other AC vent) will pop loose after a little persuasion from a non-scratching pry tool (plastic). You can start on the left hand side because the seam is clearly visible there. There are four clips that hold the trim on there. Once you get that off you can see the attachment of the gauge cluster (four bolts, sorry can't remember the size). Remove them, disconnect the wiring harness and you've got the cluster out. Just be careful not to scratch the plastic gauge face as you remove it.

here goes
Reference to the instrument Cluster removal.
you'll need to pull/pry the finish panel gently
don't pull hard on the AC vent, or the speedo/tach cuz those could break.

good luck

Hey thanks G.T. Those pages you posted are extremely helpful. In my description I was wrong about the right hand AC vent being part of the trim piece. But, that diagram shows it exactly.

It is pretty easy to get the gauge cluster out of there on these S197's. It was a lot more tricky to get the gauges out of my '96. Especially to get the plug connectors back in right.

Alex, they're from the 2007-2008 service manual
i've saved the ENTIRE thing (thousands of PDFs in over 200MBs) and sent it to Brad to host it for TMS.
this was over 6 months back.. and they still haven't got the time to do so :S

Any chance you have one for removing the center panel above the stereo? The one with the 2 vents in it?

Thanks.
