hey guys,

i've been hearing an annoying sound every time any sort of bass comes out of my speakers, (the rear window set). it sounded like a plastic vibration or something similar, but no matter how hard i looked i couldn't find it. i tried holding down the baby restratints, though maybe that was it. i made sure the defroster wires were on tight, and they were...so i just drove around and accepted the fact that i had an annoying rattle from my speakers.

the other day i got back there in good daylight and i think i finally figured it out. there is a good amount of broken glass on the back dash of my car. i'm not sure how it got back there during the assembly, but i guess it doesn't matter. anyhow, i noticed glas in the grill cover for the rear speakers, so i'm guessing there is probably one, if not several, small pieces of glass bouncing around on my speakers when the bass hits.

so i need to figure out a way to get the rear speakers so i can vaccum the glass off of the cones, assuming i'm right about there being glass in there. do the grills just pop off? or can i drop the speakers out from the below in the trunk? sorry i haven't had a lot of time to look, so i thought i'd ask the pro's first.

thanks for any help.

the noise I have is actually coming from the plastic around the front seat a-piller mounting points. What a pain.

I would bring your car back to ford and have them deal with it. This should not be your issue.

Ditto what he said.....however, if you don't like having the dealer mess around with your car - the speakers do just drop out from below - IIRC its 4 fasteners per speaker.

what do you mean? it's coming from the front seat mounts? it sounds like it's coming from the rear passenger side of the car. sorry, i just don't understand what you're refering to.

if i do take it to ford, i need to be able to tell them what to do. since they don't seem to know on their own.

woah....I have a sound coming from the rear passanger side too. It happens when I am driving slow in 5th gear...and the mufflers make a very low sound. Almost a metallic vibration.

just on a side note, i played with my sound balance and when i moved the sound around to every speaker except the rear right there was no noise. so the sound is deffinatly from the passenger side rear speaker. i'll try to drop them out today, since i get to leave work a little early.

Let me tell ya from installing aftermarket speakers, its a little tricky. The back deck lid has to be removed and you need a snake type extension to get the speaker screws out. And I think it's a torqe bit, although it may be phillips, can't remember now.
The back seats need to be let down, the rear side molding must be totally removed then remove the two plastic push ins and the rear deck comes out. Hope this helps.

well at least i know where to start. i'm going to try just dropping the speakers out first. hopefully that will do it.

The speakers do not drop out from below, nor do you have to remove the rear deck, both speaker grills snap out from above allowing access to remove the speakers from above. The fit is very tight to access the screws, so it is necessary to use a stubby torx screwdriver for removal.

I just had a whole new system put in. Only one twelve in the trunk though.

Man does my car rattle. The rear deck lid vibrates, the rear panels vibrate, the cover for the spare tire vibrates. It dosen't sound too good.

I got quite a bit of work to do.

Anybody got any suggestions on how the fasten the rear deck lid down?

I am a little stuck on that one.

well i don't know about fastening the rear deck lid down, but try having your decklid dynamatted. that should help with the rattle. or so they say.

Dynamat is the best!! I have used it on my last 3 cars and it really helps to isolate and deaden road noise. On my '05 I've already installed it in the trunk flooring, rear quarter panel, rear wheel well, rear package shelf, tranny tunnel, rear foot & underseat areas and inside both door skins. Next are under seat, and front cowl areas.....I also have installed the Dynamat "TAC" Mat with spray adhesive in the inside door and rear quarter panels.

hey man, do you remember how many square feet it took for you to do all of that? i was thinking about having my trunk, trunk lid, and rear deck dynamatted on saturday if i had time. they have a box of 36sq. ft., just wondering if that's enough?

36 sq.ft. should do the inside trunk floor/lid/sides easily....IIRC I used 2 of the "door kit" boxes that each comes with 12 sq' - so depending on how you apply - you should be OK.....you are using Dynamat "Extreme"......much better (more expensive) and flexible than the original Dynamat.....
