Radio Replacement
Due to the problems reported here, and the unwarranted high cost I passed on the Shaker and am planning on finding an aftermarket replacement.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a moderate priced replacement, nothing exotic, that would fit in the dash opening without extensive customization?
Thanks
Neil

Just buy any aftermarket MP3 compatible cd player. I'm going to get one with aux input for future IPOD goodness. You'll need to get a conversion kit which should cost an extra $20. If you want a 6 cd changer, that might be a little more of a tall order, but with mp3 cds, I don't know why you'd need all that space.
Thanks, my concern is, the original radio takes up so much space in the console I am afraid a repalement that takes up less space will look terrible

The conversion kit I bought puts the stereo up high, and half the space, underneath there it includes a storage space where you can put your cds/sunglasses/etc... I don't think it will look bad. I've seen something like that in other cars.

Actually a small storage space may work well.
Can you post pics or a link?

I just changed out my Head unit to a Alpine unit so I could reinstall my XM tuner. The kit I ordered from Cardomain. It is a Scosche piece (SKFD24-4) The website says it is for a 2004-up F150. It ran about $24+ S/H. You can get one cheaper, but this piece also has the soundcase adaptor that holds 4 CD's. I think it looks better than the pod that usually fits beneath the CD player. When I had my alarm installed the guy lost the Power cap. Have not got around to ordering the eject button cover yet.

Looks nice. What kind of speaker setup do you have.

Also, you can just go pick up the Metra install kit, which I happen to like better for this particular car. It allows for 2 DIN units, a Double-DIN unit, or 1 DIN + pocket, and you can decide if you want the pocket on top or bottom. Crutchfield's kit is the Metra, and Circuit City also carries it.
