PIE Adaptor problem

I have the PIE adaptor which I purchased AFTER the upgrade to fix the problem of dropped connections to the stereo. I believe I have the upgraded adaptor. It's been working well for months, but guess what...yes it is starting to drop the connection to the stereo, and it is starting to do it frequently. It's beyond annoying to have to disconnect the battery every few days.

Is anyone else having problems? I'm about ready to just give up and rip the shaker out.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I put mine in the same location.

I just looked at the PIE forums and it looks like we're not the only ones with problems.

I've had the problem a couple of times but I connected mine to a switched 12v source instead of a constant sourse. Instead of disconnecting the battery I just have to turn the key off.

Hmm, interesting. Where exactly did you wire it up?

I wired it to the #5 fuse slot (which is not used) in the interior fuse box.

I put a fuse on the line that I ran from the #5 slot, I didn't put a fuse in the slot. I used a yellow one of these and cut one side of it off, it fits very snug in the fuse slot.

If blowing it out helps then one would assume it's getting dusty or something. Would dielectric (sp?) grease help that?

cant you just connect it to a switched wire that connects to the radio? so it is better for this thing to be switched?

I was using the dash power outlet to charge my ipod (with a Belkin car adaptor), I think that may have been the problem. The PIE is wired to that same outlet, and I think both things hooked up at the same time were confusing the PIE. At least, I hope that's what it was.

Now I'm charging the ipod using the console power outlet with no problems so far...

Any pics of this? I'm having trouble visualizing it. That's a sketch of the connector, right? Not the fuse? Where's the fuse exactly, and what type is it? How is it connected?

I used an in line fuse adapter like the one below and connected one end to the yellow connector that goes to the #5 slot and the other end to the PIE Adaper and put a fuse in it.

What kind of fuse did you use? And as far as the connector - you said you cut one end off it. You mean one of the prongs? And then you just jammed it in the fuse slot?

Thanks for bearing with me here.

I went out and took some pics.

This one shows the end connector that I modified to fit in the #5 slot. I have 3 different things wired into it and each has its own in-line fuse.

Attachment 6939

This one shows the 5 amp in-line fuses.

Attachment 6940

This one shows how I routed them.

Attachment 6942

And this one shows where I had to cut a slot in the fuse box cover so I could route the wires to where I needed them. You can not see this, it is behind the kick plate.

Attachment 6941

Hope this answers your questions. Let me know if you need anything else.

Man, thanks for the pics. Appreciate the effort.

So it looks like you did cut off one of the prongs on that connector, right? And it stays in that fuse slot securely? Does Radio Shack have all this stuff?

No problem, only took a minute. That's exactly what I did, cut off one of the prongs and it does fit snug but the connectors come in blue, red, and yellow and the yellow one is thicker so it fits better. I got the In-line fuse adapter, the fuses and the connectors at walmart but i believe radio shack has them as well.
