I don't mean to come off as sounding short, but do a search- I've read it here somewhere but can't remember the setup exactly.

Parking Brake Switch

I have the exact same DVD unit. It is easy to bypass the parking brake switch. You will have to pull up your center console and find the wire that goes the parking brake switch. Somewhere around there you will see where the installer spliced into it. You need to fix that splice and make your own using a small toggle switch. I mounted mine inside my center glove box where it would be hidden. I reused the parking brake circuit for my switch. Good luck and have fun with your DVD!

I would assume that you culd just ground the wire that they connected to your parking break. Find that wire shouldnt be hard to locate with the, they may have run it up the side

But will the toggle make the brake light come on in the dash?

This is the correct way to bypass this safety feature.

Don't be upset with the installer, they were following the law.

My toggle switch doesn't affect the parking brake light on the dash. The circuit is not broken since you are just tapping into it. It is wired parellel wich makes it separate like the good christmas lights that won't kill all the lights when one burns out.

I don't have the Pioneer, but do have the Kenwood and just grounded the park brake wire. Problem solved.

Just Grounding The Wire Won't Work

Just grounding the wire won't work with the Pioneer DVD unit. I tried that and it still didn't work. You must use a toggle switch to simulate the movement of the parking brake switch. The Pioneer unit has a current sensor that picks up the current change when the switch actuates.

This is true....I had the installer add a toggle switch for me. To be quite honest....I like the ability to be able to watch a dvd....but I am not going to drive around town all day and night watching one....but I did load in my aquarium dvd and play it while listening to my ipod.......the AVH-P6800 DVD is a kick a$$ unit, and I could not be more happy with it, plus I found it online for $800.00 half retail !!!!!

I would like to see your install jobs. Would you post pictures of it? Also do any of you plan to buy the performance diagnostics add on?

Really? My mistake then.

It certainly worked with my AVIC-X1R?
