New Headunit

Looking at picking this up: http://cgi.ebay.com/PIONEER-AVIC-F70...item4a9b6d9d5e. Do you all think this is a good deal? What, if anything, else would I need to install this in my 2005 Mustang? I know the AVIC D3s were having "popping" problems that were fixed with a voltage regulator, is this unit going to need the same thing? Aslo I remember hearing of software problems when these units first came out, if this unit doesnt have the newest software how would I go about getting it? Any other suggestions on another headunit to go with are welcome.

I was going to get a Kenwood because they use Garmin for the GPS systems and have no "*****" so when they are off they are very clean. I opted to keep the stock stereo and buy a Garmin GPS for trips since I went to Europe this Summer and a dual din would have done me no good over there.

The 900 series was available for $459 a while back.

Here's the 700 for $339

I picked up my f90bt for 550 shiped if memory serves right, make sure you reaserch around if you have the shaker 500 system, the amps for the shaker need high voltage signal to turn on or they will pop everytime you turn the radio on. Gets anoying btw. The f90 has high voltage amp signal. No issues with that.

Also if your going to get an f-series pioneer, look around and get one that has firmware v3.xxx installed. Belive me its well worth the extra as the stock f-series has firmware 2.xxx or even 1.xxx installed and it is very slugish. 3.xxx makes the whole unit way more responsive as well as add the newest maps that also have road signs on them. Well worth it in my book. I paid 65bux for the upgrade through pioneer but that was an intro price and now I belive its 120bux.

Not to mention that the f90bt also has the full ipod cable so you dont need to buy extra stuff.

So it sounds like the f90 may be the way to go. I dont have an exact budget but Id like to keep the price down as much as possible. Anyone know where the best place would be to get a deal on the f90? Also what installation kit would I need for it and where could I pick that up from since I dont see it listed on crutchfield anymore.

A quick froogle turned this up. http://www.pacificstereo.com/pioneer-avic-f90bt.html

seems to be back order. But the price is decent. I would try contacting the shop and see if they plan on geting anymore in stock.

Does anyone know if the f700 unit requires the voltage amp or does it already have the high output like the f90 does?

all of the pioneers (and most aftermarket stereos) output 12v on the amp line. You will need the 5v regulaor to drop the voltage down otherwise you will get the "pop" when the factory amps turn on.

I worked at an audio store not too long ago and I agree that the f90bt is the way to go even if its a little extra change. There wasnt anything I didnt like about it. And you can buy it cheaper on eBay than we could at cost lol

I Have a pioneer head unit and i didnt have to get anything additional to get it to work right. I also have never had the "pop" that some people speak of.

Did you connect to all three plugs in the back? There should have been a seperate adapter in the kit that had RCA plugs on it. If not you might not be using the factory amps/subs. I could be wrong but that is what came with my kit and I had the Shaker 500.

I didnt use any rca plugs. I just used the wire harness adapter that fits our cars. Besides that, i didnt use anything else. I dont have aftermarket amps/subs.
